Who do/did you have more confidence (if you can even call it that) in?
While I'll admit Simms was pretty bad (understatement) against LSU...and pretty much all of last season...he didn't exactly have the easiest task in starting his first game this year against arguably the best defense in the country and next week against another defense that is arguably the best in the country.
And although I'm in no way advocating him being a "good" quarterback, I still think he has gotten a bad rap for being just plain awful. I think he is servicable and could actually prosper if Chaney doesn't try to do too much with him (i.e. take a lot of shots down field).
If we could do with Simms what Kiffin did with Crompton (Play-action roll out short passes), I think he could give us just enough of a passing game to win against the likes of USCe/Arkansas. We already know he improves our running game with his ability to check/audible.
What do you say VN? Is he better or worse than the 2008 version of Crompton? I say he's better (or not as bad). Once again...jmo.
