Who do/did you have more confidence (if you can even call it that) in?

While I'll admit Simms was pretty bad (understatement) against LSU...and pretty much all of last season...he didn't exactly have the easiest task in starting his first game this year against arguably the best defense in the country and next week against another defense that is arguably the best in the country.

And although I'm in no way advocating him being a "good" quarterback, I still think he has gotten a bad rap for being just plain awful. I think he is servicable and could actually prosper if Chaney doesn't try to do too much with him (i.e. take a lot of shots down field).
If we could do with Simms what Kiffin did with Crompton (Play-action roll out short passes), I think he could give us just enough of a passing game to win against the likes of USCe/Arkansas. We already know he improves our running game with his ability to check/audible.

What do you say VN? Is he better or worse than the 2008 version of Crompton? I say he's better (or not as bad). Once again...jmo.

id take Simms personally. least he plays with heart and all hes got. Crompton had all that talent and was just horrible in 08

I think Simms is a good QB...he just had misfortune and plays in wrong offensive style..he could go good at schools where passing game isn't much dependent on big long passes (which is Bray's forte). Simms is more like game leader and manager..he is good with short pass..will turn into a great coach some day...
Crompton on the otherhand was a great QB in practise but never could do it in games..he was just as curious case as anyone. I saw him during practices and all coaches believed he could be next big thing...never threw a pass off target..but u go to games and he hands it to other team more than ours..i dunno was it fear of real time games or what but "practice talent" wise he was as accurate as anyone can be

Simms by a thousand miles.

Crompton in '08 displayed possibly the worst quarterback play I had ever seen throughout the course of a season.

I agree. I would like to see Chaney simplify it so to speak for Simms and give us a chance at actually moving the ball. By letting him air it out, he's not putting Simms in the best position to succeed imo. Just be a little dink and dunk team passing wise and see if we can get some reverses etc to open up the running game. With all these injuries, we're going to have to improvise a little bit so just let him manage the game and hopefully the D can build on its first half success from this past week and have that carry over for 4 quarters the rest of the season. Wishful thinking maybe, but if we can do that, I think we can possibly compete with USCe and Arky.

Crompton, and this isn't even close if cutcliff stays there to work with him. Can't remember but think he went through 3-4 diff OC. And going through that many playbooks and styles will hurt any SEC QBs chances from the get go. Fulmers worse hire was Dave Clawson.

As awful as Crompton was in '08, I think we'll never see the improvement from '08 Crompton to '09 Crompton, in Simms. There was always that "potential" in Crompton.

Simms is just terrible, ever since he left Louisville, it's been obvious...

I hope he proves me wrong. But after watching Bray all season, it's disgusting to watch Simms as the UT "quarterback"......

Crompton at least had potential, Simms doesn't IMO.

I'd take Simms, but only slightly. Now '09 Crompton was much better and as mentioned, you won't see that.type of improvement from Simms

the defenses we are running against will not allow that much throwing underneath unless to a superior team (we are not) there are lots of single coverages on the fly route with 7-8 in the box to stop the run/rush the short pass. that is why we take deep shots with simms. even the interception was a good read (not as good as rivera wide open on the post), just a bad throw to the inside vs. outside shoulder

Every time a QB is called a good leader / game manager, what they are really saying is he is not a great QB, but he is the best we have available. :)

I'd take the Crompton from the 2009 UGA game and on, but I'd take Simms over the rest of Crompton's career. I'll never forget Crompton's sudden breakout game. In one week, from the AU home game to the UGA home game, he went from the worst ever to a huge breakout performance.

Neither.. Both suck and both make me cringe everytime they throw the ball.. Crompton was terrible! And Simms is just as bad (never thought i would say that)

Are you people on crack? Bashing the Kid because he looked bad against the number 1 team in the nation... seriously? How many QB's have looked good against them this year? Oregon and West Virginia's QB's put up ok yardage against them, every other QB was held under 100 yards. It is not like these guys are scrubs here.

Is Simms a great QB? no but he is good enough to get us to a bowl. Honestly, Bray is a better overall talent but the difference between them talent wise wouldn't have changed the outcome of any game we played or will play this year save maybe USCe. Bray would have kept the scores against LSU and Bama a bit more respectable but we still get destroyed by them.
