I was beside my buddy as he took that video of the Wilhoit kick against Florida in '04. You can hear me screaming like a little girl. Don't bash the video quality...it was taken by a cell phone. Yeah, you can't see all that much, but it's the crowd reaction that gives me chills every time. A year or so later, I posted it to my MySpace profile and my buddy put it on his website. Apparently someone posted it to youtube. It's cool to see it have almost 50,000 views there and to have people link to it all over the web.

That was the single greatest sports moment I've ever witnessed in person. That was my first year in graduate school at UT and just my second Vols game ever (the season opener against UNLV being the first). I'm glad so many people have enjoyed the video.

Let me try to explain this once and for all for my feeble-minded friends here at Volnation.

The "catch" or "non-catch" in the 2000 game is debatable. If I were in your shoes, I would surely take the view that it was dropped. It was a close call, no doubt, but it was a judgment call.

The 2004 game involved two mistakes, one a matter of judgment, one not. The first was hte one-way personal foul. The SEC says that it shoulfd have been called both ways, but that's still subjective, so whatever. But the failure to start the clock was a purely objective error. It is not debatable. It was wrong.

The SEC actually censured the officiating crew for that game due to that error.

The reality is that the calls in the 2000 and 2004 game are not remotely comparable.

I say it because it is established fact that the call was blown. The official has admitted that. The SEC has admitted that. There is no debate. It was the wrong outcome.

When did this thread turn into a discussion about the Gaffney "catch"?

Edit: boy, I was way late with this one.

No problem. We will just assume that you also mean to compare the two incomparable situations.

while we're at it, let's throw in the 2006 debacle too where marvin mitchell got robbed of a pick six because jt mapu "hit" chris leak in the head.

Any body I've ever talked to has said that it was a catch. And I know more UF fans than UT fans.
