(2) Thunder vs. (3) Lakers

Okay. Who was making shots last night? Sessions? Blake? Bynum was off artest was pretty good and pau played okay. So who does be pass to?

Somebody for the open look because he only shot 54%.

Reggie Miller "Been a one man show all year, that is it. Pau has played hard, but Kobe has set the Table."

How about game 4 when Bynum was dominating and Kobe stops passing and jacking up shots. Whats the excuse on that game?

This is a two-edged sword.

That's what happened yesterday, but on average Kobe scored 27.9 ppg @ .527 TS%.

The rest of the team on average scored 69.4 ppg @ .536 TS%.

Bynum and Gasol averaged 36.1 ppg @ .570 TS%.

So even though Kobe carried them yesterday, it's a damn good thing those bigs were around, because this would have been a very ugly offensive season for the Lakers, otherwise.

Oh my bad you guys were complaining the other day about what he had done in the current game.

If I am not mistaken Bynum said "they started fronting me and it threw me out of whack"

Also Metta passed up a couple of chances to get the ball to Bynum in the 4th. It was not just Kobe not getting the ball to Bynum.

That's one data point. They had bad games, and Kobe shot a ton to make up for them. But on days where Kobe shoots poorly, and they shoot well, Kobe still shoots a lot.

That's the problem. It's not what happens in one game, or even in a short series. It's what happens on average over time. Anybody can have an awesome night or a horrible night (Tony Delk scored 50, and Kobe shot 3/20 with 7 turnovers once this year), but it's about what you do on average that makes you a competitive team.

You're missing the forest for the trees. I agree with you. Kobe had a great game last night, but his teammates shooting 38% is not normal. That's a rarity. You can't say, "see they suck" and point to one game, when the last 70 games say otherwise.

The only persosn who you can make a case for is Bynum.

This.

As we've seen in this thread, he can do no wrong.

The best they can hope for at this point is to give him a point guard that can shoot threes and try and tell him to not shoot the ball so damn much.

The Chris Paul non-trade killed them.

I agree he is not what he used to be, but he's still a good shooting guard who can make a difference. He gets a solid point guard, we trade Bynum for Howard, make some bench moves.. and were right there.

Oh, and A NEW HEAD COACH.

Honestly I think you guys would be better trading Gasol and keep Bynum. I still Bynum can become absolutely dominant.

What point guard is Kobe going to respect enough to defer to? He needs a coach that can kick his ass into passing the damn ball sometimes. Kobe should be generating 10 layups a game for his two quality big guys. He ought to be getting 7 or 8 assists a game almost by accident.

It's funny because the end of Kobe's career sort of reminds me of the beginning of Jordan's. (Which I am, sadly, old enough to remember.) I don't care if you're the best player in the world; hero ball isn't good enough. Kobe seems to be so hellbent to prove himself to history that he's ignoring that.

I'm not sure Chris Paul would have been the silver bullet everyone thinks, simply because Paul's whole game is based around dominating his team with his own personality. I just can't see it meshing well with Kobe. Maybe Steve Nash would be the perfect PG for the Lakers next year? He doesn't have the alpha dog personality and Kobe would at least respect him.

Steven A. Smith said it best.. IF HE GROWS UP. You can't make that kind of a "maybe" investment. He said last night he doesn't care where he plays. His trade stock is high. I would also be cool with a Bynum for D-Will and Brook Lopez. Two 7 footers in the offense, and you couldn't double Kobe with DWill on the wing. Pick your poison. Also, Pau and Brook would be good for 16 a night. Then you keep Ramon coming off the bench, and have Hill, Ebanks, Barnes (if he can consistently play well) and some other young cats. We'll see what happens, but you all know when LA swings, they swing BIG. Should be an interesting off season. GO LAKERS.

I would suspect if there's any PG of serious caliber that Kobe could be capable of respecting and deferring to, it would be CP3. But they need to land a big damn fish for that to happen. Hence the last part of my post about Kobe being told to not shoot the ball so damn much.

When I watch Paul with the Clippers and Kobe with the Lakers, all I can think is that their offense would be like two loudmouth jackasses repeatedly arguing which fork to take on a trail. Both of them seem like guys who need to be in complete control of what's going on. Maybe I'm wrong.
