Some of you are acting as if Dooley and his staff are purposely going after players with fewer stars because they think that's all they can get. This is completely moronic and not based on reality whatsoever.

----Brave Volunteer

That is what im saying. It is stupid to think they are just not going after and will not get some top talent.

My high school 30some years ago, with one of the best HS football stadiums you'll ever see - makes me proud...

The Stone Castle! You got that right, one of the best HS stadiums out there! Love it when the local kids have the talent to play for UT! Welcome to Big Orange Country!

I mean no offense here and I'm glad and proud to have these Bristol boys coming to TN, but unless something has really changed the Stone Castle is nothing special at all, I played there in 80' and 82' and the field was in half-assed shape and the locker room facilities weren't much to speak of. In the 82' game there was actually dogsh!t all over the field, our fulback got tackled in a pile and we had to call a timeout because we couldn't even huddle because everyone was gagging. True story.

:eek:lol:

That is quite possibly the funniest football related story I've heard! But seriously, that was 28 years ago. SURELY they've made improvements since then.

Meanwhile, as if right on que, Saban just picked up another 5-star LB from Ohio. You guys who act like stars don't matter humor me, as if 95-01 wasn't built on such. Guess we'll all find out if these new guys can slow him down in the next 5 years.

This is completely moronic and not based on reality whatsoever. If Dooley offered these boys a scholarship, then I am confident it's because Dooley believes they will make great players and fit well in his system.

I've said it before, I trust Dooley and his staff to evaluate talent more so than Rivals or Scout. Let's judge 2-3 years from now on just how good this class will be.

A few months ago, some of you were *****ing and moaning that we didn't have any commitments. Now that commitments are coming in, you're STILL *****ing because they don't have as many stars as you would like them to have. God, shut up!

I'll let Quark help you understand your species.

Crowder received offers from Florida, Auburn, Va Tech, Ga Tech, Penn State and South Carolina, just to name a few.

not sure about Downs, but lol @ your ignorant post.

Edit: Downs " biggest " offer was from Va Tech, though he was committed to Duke originally, and David Cutcliffe knows offensive talent.

I'm not saying this because I think these are not great recruits.Because i think they are great pickups from my end of the state and that doesn't happen often. But neither Rivals nor Scout show Crowder with an Auburn nor Florida offer.

I guess Dooley should tell Da'Rick Rogers to hit the road. After all, he's a 5*, so he's bound to flunk out or get kicked out.

Well, if the pattern continues he won't be here much longer. How many 4* and 5* have we lost in the last 5 years? Too many to count.

Wow. Can't some of you guys refrain from being jerks just long enough to let these guys celebrate their decisions?

Downs is a very, very good TE prospect. He's big, fast, athletic, catches well, and is extremely intelligent.

you believe the cup with Dooley is 3/4 full and I believe we are offering guys that just can not win in the SEC. It is a legit argument and one we probably will never agree on but we are both Vols. I just believe this bleed Tennessee philosophy propped up by a 3 hour plan is boneheaded and destined for failure. You believe it is the way to go we just disagree. At the end of the day we will get the results on the field but today's players "stars'" don't bleed anything but green. The ones who bleed orange would never play for UT because they are not SEC calibre with a few exceptions Reveiz being one of them.

5.7 3 star or 5.8 4 star. Who gives a crap. These are very solid pickups. Just watch there videos and you can see that. Dooley has done a great job so far as well as entire staff. We have 10 commits and I assume at least 4could jump to 4 stars just to make some of you happy. Posey, crowder, worley, smith

We'll take 'em. 3* linemen should be the most common appearance in this year's class. We have the stars at skilled positions. Press on, CDD. It's nothing extraordinary, but it's where we need bodies. Hopefully we get the ones that work out best for us.

Homegrown is an extra!

And probably with kids who don't get expelled, arrested, or dismissed due to breaking the law. Blue collar players can and do bring solid results, especially with quality coaching. I look forward to seeing our "inferior" kids beating the unholy sh(* out of supposedly superior teams. We might not get that consistently this year but 2011 will see the orange sun rising in the east and scorching "big boys" to the point that sunblock just ain't going to help.

are you a Vandy fan ????

Crowder received offers from Boston College , Duke , GT, Kansas , La Tech, Marshall, MTSU , South Carolina, UCF , Vandy , an Va Tech

He has reportedly been courted by the schools you mentioned but has not been 'offered'...although some of the schools that have actually offered look pretty good ...but I would think we should aspire to better.

Downs has been offerred by Baylor, Duke, Maryland , Memphis and Miss St.

For all you guys whining and b*tching that they are only 3 stars, how many 5 star OL do you think there are? Rivals has two listed. One is committed to LSU. The other is that Kouandjo kid. Cant remember where his brother ended up, but we are listed in schools of interest. Scout has 6 with us listed as a school of interest for the three that aren't committed. Chill.

We should get Rivals to downgrade him to a 3*. That'll straighten him out.

Cyrus' brother signed with Alabama and that is most likely where he will go

You geezer! J/k. I wish my old high school would put out some d-1 talent. We had one Guy go to ole miss back in the 60's and I played at Lambuth University in Jackson but that's just a NAIA school.

lol

yeah, just passed the half-century mark, but still have my hair, a waist that fits comfortably in a coach class seat, and can still throw 50+ yards...

Bristol has put a few guys in D1, particularly back when they won back-to-back state championships '72 and '73, including a 52-0 final one year and something comparable the other - George Heath went to VT, Dave Bibee went to UT, couple years later Davie Lamie went to VT, and several others guy - but probably my favorite was Greg Jones, playing linebacker at UT something like '74-'78. Not the monster athlete you see these days, but tough as nails and a real leader.

And, yes, it doesn't get better than the Stone Castle...

Not selling out. It's just that linemen are hard to rate and that's what we need. This class should have a lot of 3* linemen in it. It won't be top 10.

My guess is CDD's second class will be better on ratings (if they can show some promise on the field) as he'll be going after more skilled positions then.

Basically, the Vols are a team with skilled players, but lacking depth in the line. They're hard to evaluate, so who knows if we're doing a good job at it or not.

I'd like to see some 4 & 5* linemen signing up, but there just aren't many, so it's hard to expect that.
