As much as it pains me to say it, I think you're right. The only way things change this year would be a clear indication the team has quit on him. 2-8 would possibly be the final brick. Another thing that works against change, are the extensions/raises given to PF and Pruitt. Almost as if someone wanted to make it even more difficult to fire either of the two.I think the Covid excuse will cover everything this year for Pruitt. I think Fulmer will run interference for him. I think they will sacrifice some staff members... even though they weren't allowed to coach their way.
There are people here who want the offensive staff fired. Maybe they are awful teachers of the game... but that doesn't seem to be the problem. Regardless of who Pruitt hires, they will work under his philosophy. Rightly or wrongly, he's old school. He wants to replicate what Bama did in Saban's first few years. He thinks it will still work to win with D and a dominant run game. It will do no good to argue that it no longer works. He is stubborn and will die on that hill.
There is a school of thought often parroted here that all you need to do is give a coach enough "time" and things will turn around. I have never bought it... but I believe we are about to see it tried. As much as it pains me to say it, I think you're right. Really hope you're wrong on this. Fans have suffered so long. Not sure how much remains to be asked of them. There is a school of thought often parroted here that all you need to do is give a coach enough "time" and things will turn around.
