What would you run on Saturday if you were Debord/Jones?

Me?

I am doing a play action to Hurd and letting Dobbs turn the ball loose for as far as he can throw it. Let VT know you are going to throw it deep from the get go.

Hopefully, PW or Malone bring it down and you are set from then on.

What say you fellow "keyboard coaches"?

This will come off as negative so sorry . Lol

VT will show heavy blitz. We will run it up the middle. Get stuffed at the line, and give VT momentum for a bit.

A play action pass with a rollout to help Dobbs escaping the pocket would be my play call. What will happen is a run in b gap with Hurd getting 2 yards.

This would certainly be a change and most likely a surprise for sure

My first 8 plays are passes unless we have a 3rd and short.

Depends on field position. If we have good field position then I'd say Roll Dobbs out give him a dump off man, but his first choice should be a deep pass to Malone or Williams. Dobbs usually throws pretty well on the run. It would be nice to get the safeties on their heels early.

so you will waste a play? Play action only works if you are capable of completing passes.

Not to sure about first play..especially a play action pass as you have to establish that the run is a serious threat before play action plays typically work..

But..we do need to let teams know we will go long with the ball..that is the only question mark I have with our play calling is why we don't go long more often to at least let teams know we will try.

Even if we can't complete the pass..you can make sure to throw it where they can't intercept it, and just knowing you will try forces teams to defend it..

Some of you guys have too much faith in Dobbs being able to hit the long ball. He's barely hitting mid range receivers in the hands. everything is behind or under thrown.

Play call: The vols will be going from left to right on your radio dial or North to South for those watching on ABC.

Formation: Dobbs under center I-formation with Jason Croom motioning over on the left hand side of the formation to be the lead blocker.

Defense: VT in the 5-2 with press coverage on the outside with the left side safety along with the right side LB stepping up for a blitz up the middle with the intention of making a statement and stuffing Jalen Hurd up the middle on the first play (since this last week it was quite obvious that we run the ball on first down)

Play: Dobbs take the snap and puts the ball out there (Peyton style) for the dive play up the middle. VolNation cringes knowing what is coming as it was evident that VT was bringing the blitz to stop Jalen at the line or in the back field for a loss. As we are turning our heads and squinting our eyes we fail to see that the strong side Line Backer has full bought into the run and stepped up to cover his gap. Dobbs appears to hand the ball off to Jalen and the camera man follows as he is hit immediately behind the line by the blitzing safety and a DT. VolNation throws their hats on the ground pissed off because we are so predictable and its the start to a long day. As our emotions turn back to the screen we see Dobbs turn, plant his back foot and instantaneously throw a nice little lob to Jason Croom running up the seam with no one within 15 yards of him. He snuck right around the strong side Line Backer who stepped up to stop the run and slipped as he was attempting to change directions the second he saw the fake. Croom takes the pass and gets caught in the red zone since Jason Croom is now a TE and doesn't have blazing speed and sets us up for an opening drive TD.

Dear Mother of God I would go nuts!

We always give the ball to Hurd on first down. DUH!

Been doing that for 2 years 99.9 % of the time. Get 1 yd most of the time. We're setting up Vandy for a screen pass. Gonna confuse em. "Handoff to Hurd up the Middle" I can hear Kesling right now. Gotta be setting it up for somebody

Dobbs tosses off sweep to Jennings and Dobbs runs out wheel route on right for the pass back just like last year

If I were Jones/DeBord? Handoff to Hurd up the middle. Was this a trick question?

Two TE set, play action to hurd, and hit wolf on a Seam route. I don't know why we don't run that Seam route with the TE's more, but when we do it usually goes for big plays just like the bowl game.

Sorry Smokey, didn't see your post, great minds think alike.

I want it to just be a deep ball to Malone. But it'll probably be a handoff to Hurd. Lol

I'll be honest with you, I really would really love to see a deep completion to byrd. That would get me up out of my chair.
