1st play on Offense

A pass to one of the big TEs across the middle of the field. That seems to be a high percentage play for us, and it's a pass play, so win-win in my book.

We all know what will happen...handoff 4 yards deep to Hurd going right. Get stuffed at the line for no gain. Setting us up for a 3 and out.

The deep ball is more about a receiver getting to it rather than the QB putting it into their hands. Al Davis former Oakland Raiders owner always had a speedster or even a track guy on the outside to get to the bomb. Make the defense defend the entire field and just win baby!!

P/A to Hurd with Dobbs rolling out in a bootleg to the right having a high/low pass option or to keep it.

Or throw that f'n bomb!

The defense will be expecting run. All they have heard about and seen on film is the "3 headed monster".

Toss the rock.

Dobb under throws the ball. Ideally the ball should be put in front of the receiver.

If were my offense I'd run a wheel route to kamara with Hurd and Jennings lined up as wideouts on that side. So soon as AK gets out there those 2 clear the path.

Not to sure about first play..especially a play action pass as you have to establish that the run is a serious threat before play action plays typically work..

But..we do need to let teams know we will go long with the ball..that is the only question mark I have with our play calling is why we don't go long more often to at least let teams know we will try.

Even if we can't complete the pass..you can make sure to throw it where they can't intercept it, and just knowing you will try forces teams to defend it..

they will be playing the run and stacking the box from the first play on, I dont blame them until we can prove that we can throw the ball consistently.

My choice:pass to Wolf 8-10 yards deep in the middle of the field. High percentage and Dobbs seems to hit them.

What will happen:Hurd between the guards for a yard or two.

They'll expect us to run it up the middle, so naturally we'll attempt a deep pass to Malone. But the fact that they know we know they are expecting the run, and their subsequent pass defense, allows us to run it up the middle for a huge gain...

unless they know we know that they know...

Realistically. No Bomb, no pass, nothing fancy. Debord is too set in his ways to change his mindset. Pound the rock. Hurd gets the handoff. 4 yard gain.

What would you run on Saturday if you were Debord/Jones?

Me?

I am doing a play action to Hurd and letting Dobbs turn the ball loose for as far as he can throw it. Let VT know you are going to throw it deep from the get go.

Hopefully, PW or Malone bring it down and you are set from then on.

What say you fellow "keyboard coaches"?

Yes. Play action go route immediately

It's not as if DeBord's entire offense is running Hurd left, Hurd right, Hurd up the middle...

Screen. I would do what Charlie Weis did to us the year he beat the crap out of our defense with Notre Dame. He opened that game up with 6 straight screens. Our D-Line was terrified to get up field. We didn't have a pass rush the rest of the game. That is exactly what I would do.
