'19 CA QB JT Daniels (Georgia commit)

one he lost his job that second year and transferred.

And glad to hear someone say playing on a bad team might actually matter.
I’m not a NeverJGer, but I’m not painting fiction as fact to deflect from him either. I watched the guy play for Rhea County and for the Vols. There were moments of frustration of course, but Kelly was a successful Vols QB...FACT!

Agreed he was successful but I just think that credit goes to his teammates.

similar to the same reason I’d say Patrick Mahomes was a much better college QB than Jake Coker.
you just can’t look at wins to measure success

You should know better than anyone that a bad QB brings down the performance of his teammates. His tenure at UT was during a peak offensive era in UT history. Bad and successful just don’t mix. Shuler was the first recruited star level QB under Majors that I can recall...Kelly was among the best of those that got the most out of their talent.

I think Kelly did bring down his team. Look at the teams that won the national title those years and you will see we should have been won one of those. Especially considering the SEC was way down then. That was a low point for the SEC

Beat everybody but Bama...tied the NC team in his senior season. And you’re saying those Miami teams were flawed? NFL football factory.

1990 is a perfect example of what I am saying.
I mean colorado and Ga Tech won the year natty that for goodness sakes.

if we beat Bama or ND we win the natty.

Kelly threw the pick that ended the ND loss and Lord have mercy went 9/25 with 2 picks against a bad Alabama team losing 9-6.

he was the weak link on that team and we should have won that title.

You know he played 4 years...right? He threw an int against a top team and traditional power and had a bad outing against Bama? Off with his head! The championship that was there to be had was his freshman season and only Reggie Cobb’s love of weed tanked that. Not winning a NC with a loaded team disqualifies Peyton Manning as a good QB...that another Bruin point?

Bruin, slow down for a moment and just consider that you are calling Andy Kelly worse than JG. I just wanna make sure you know what you are saying.
I am missing this conversation since I have Bruin on ignore. But I am so glad you made this post so that I got to laugh harder than I have all week. Bruin claiming Andy Kelly a worse QB than JG 🤣🤣🤣🤣

You said poor QBs bring down their teams and that’s what I am pointing out. His team was flat better than ND, Ga Tech, Auburn, colorado, and Alabama that year. He was the missing link that year in particular.

his senior year we didn’t play a top 10 team all year until Penn state killed us. That’s the point I am making the SEC wasn’t good then. It was there for the taking and we didn’t get it done. Tenn was the best team virtually every single time he was under center and yet his stats weren’t good and his teams results fell short of the where it should have been. He brought his team down

10 win teams aren’t “down”. Especially since they weren’t a thing before Kelly took the helm. Our Sugar Vols won 9! You lost this one before you started. Get to working on how Chuck Webb was one of our worst RB’s ever. 😏

9-2-2 teams are certainly “down” from - 10-11win team which 1990 should have been

Shuler, Manning, Martin, CC , Ainge and Dobbs all win a natty or two with his teams
,
Yet only Martin did with maybe even more talent...and not glowing stats. Football is not the “should have” cut and dry your latest act is declaring.

Martin did have more talent id agree but the SEC was different then too. A guy down in Gainvsville made it harder to get the job done then.
the 1990 SEC was awful

No it wasn’t. You need that to be true to have a point...and you don’t.

Come on. I can respect people that think Andy kelly was a good QB but if you don’t want to admit the SEC wasn’t good in 1990 you aren’t being reasonable.

I mean look at this. This was the ole ball coaches first year.

1990 Southeastern Conference Year Summary | College Football at Sports-Reference.com

Only 5 bowl eligible teams

just an awful league that year
Making a Bowl was an achievement back then...you were alive, right? Florida was 9-2 and one of the losses was to us...by 40+ points. Auburn was off of 3 straight SEC Championships and finished 19th. One of their victories was against the Florida State team that handed Florida it’s only other loss. “Awful” doesn’t work in any realistic lexicon when you get your mitts on it. 😏

Yea making a bowl was an achievement then for a bad league. Thanks for making my point
Tired technique. 😅 You DON’T HAVE A POINT...no one make one for you! 3 nine win teams when ties existed...or there would have been 2-3 ten win teams...when there were less games and no SEC Championship Game! Remember the couple of seasons that Auburn was undefeated and couldn’t sniff a championship? First one was when they were on probation. The second was when ANYONE else was a candidate! That line of thinking towards the SEC didn’t end until Florida thrashed tOSU for a championship. THEN the league got the benefits of doubts. Thanks for being so wrong so much. 😎

Actually, I believe his point was that there were only 19 bowls in 1990, as opposed to 40 in the present day.
I still don’t think he was alive. 😉 It’d be like me arguing with someone who watched Neyland’s teams.
