'18 TN DL Greg Emerson (UT commit 7/3/17)

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee commit Greg Emerson’s comeback might be right around the corner.

Emerson, the No. 75 overall prospect in 2018 per the 247Sports composite, suffered a dislocated left ankle and fractured fibula during The Opening Finals in Beaverton, Ore., on July 2 and is working his way back to health.

The defensive end told SEC Country on Monday that the ankle is feeling good and his walking boot is in its final days.

“Aug. 11 is the day I start walking again,” Emerson said.

Emerson also began the physical therapy portion of his rehab Tuesday.

“Just to exercise my ankle,” Emerson said. “They are basically just trying to get the motion that it used to have and trying to get that swelling down. Most of the swelling is already gone.

“It’s the swelling that’s on top of the foot. It’s going down, but it’s going down slowly.”

North Side High (Jackson, Tenn.) began training camp at the end of June without Emerson on the practice field.

Tennessee commit Greg Emerson, a four-star defensive tackle, told 247Sports’ Gus Ramos at his Army All-American jersey ceremony that Alabama will “for sure” get an official visit, possibly for the Tennessee game on Oct. 21. However, the 6-foot-3, 260-pounder says he is “110 percent” committed to the Vols.

Sounds like he is using Alabama to get a free ticket and meal to see the Vols play on the road.

I feel like we should all appreciate the fact that this kid (and the other commits) stuck it out with us during this past coaching search. Couldn't have been easy....

Greg Emerson is also made for the 3-4. He's the perfect 5-technique.

If he is 100% healthy and lives up to his recruiting rank, he could start day 1 at Tennessee as a starting 3-4 DE.

Pruitt most likely wont run a 3-4 very often here. He knows we dont have the athletes to do it. We are not in the same stratosphere as Alabama.

Are you talking year 1 or ever? Cause if you're saying we won't run it much next year, that's very possible because we might not have the players suited for that scheme. However, I'm sure he's planning right now to recruit players to fit his scheme.

BTW most teams play nickel now most of the game because of the spread offenses. So yeah we won't be playing a lot of base defense regardless next year.

They sucked in the 4-2-5...so I disagree. Much better fit in the 3-4. These 18 DL especially. Chatman was an odd man out previously...really fits this set. We were at the BOTTOM. Anything different is up.
