North Side defensive lineman Greg Emerson participated in this combine. He’s a four-star prospect that named his top six schools last week: Oregon, Tennessee, Alabama, Ohio State, Clemson and Ole Miss. Considering the fact he narrowed his list of 25 offers to that group of schools, he had nothing to prove at the combine.
But North Side brought a group of guys to the event, and he’s a part of this Indians team. So he came too, and he showed out by winning multiple events including the vertical leap with a height of 10-feet-7-inches and the 40 time for linemen at 5.0. There were a lot of skill players who weren’t getting that.
“I wanted to come out and see what I could do and be here with my guys to see what they could do,” Emerson said.
He’s 6-feet-3-inches and is now officially at 257 pounds after weighing in last week at the start of summer conditioning. That’s a loss of 40 pounds since the 2016 season ended, and it’s a good kind of loss. He’s strong enough to bench press 185 pounds 35 times. Now he’s considerably quicker to get around an offensive line and put a quarterback on the run in the wrong direction.
