'18 TN DL Greg Emerson (UT commit 7/3/17)

I'm a huge Barnett fan, but lets not act like Vereen and Stripling are nothing without him either.

A totally fair point.

Having a healthier interior DL would have probably magnified both Barnett and Vereen's production.

I'm not anti-Strip by any means, but I think a lot of people on here that talk so highly of him wouldn't had we not had Barnett. That guy was on another level and would have succeeded at just about any other university.

Vereen played well as a freshman before DB ever got to campus. He was a solid contributor for four years. When you are playing behind DB and Curt Maggit though, your snaps are reduced.

Vereen made a huge big impact play at uga game that get's forgotten about because of the 2 quick strike td's at the end of the game. But his hit on uga's qb in the endzone and his recovery for a TD was a big turnaround in that game. GBO!!!!

Barnett made that hit on Eason. Vereen did recover the fumble though in the end zone.

Barnett sacked Eason in the end zone & caused that fumble.

The injuries were the story last year. But I've wondered how much better the pash rush would have looked had the DB's been playing at SEC level. DL relies on DB's as much as DB's rely on DL. Regarding Clemson's DL, they've also had 4 DB's drafted the last 2 years to our 1 and I'm sure it's even more than that over the last 5. How many more sacks would Barnett have had if we switched secondaries with Clemson over the course of his career? Counting his time at Michigan, Wolfe at Cincy, and his time here, I bet he's put twice the players in the NFL than anyone else on Jone's staff.

Outside of Mack Alexander they weren't just special on the backend. A dominant front four will make average DBs look outstanding not the other way around.

We haven't been near their level on the backend. I'm optimistic that the coaching change will help. Pass rush counts more no doubt, but it works both ways. Pass rush can't do much when the QB can drop 2 or 3 steps, launch a go route up the sideline and you can't cover it. Those coverage sacks count too.

My recollection is that our role players have improved tremendously under Strip while most of our more highly regarded recruits have struggled to play up to their potential, largely because of injury. Doubt that is Strip's fault.

He'll play this year imo

I think the same thing. I'm really worried that Tuttle might not get back to his old self fast enough, or at all. Crosby kind of fits the same mold as Tuttle. Reall big kid who has some athleticism. His 247 profile lists him at 330lbs thats a big ol boy at DT. When you ad athleticism at that size, it will be hard to keep Crosby off the field. IMO, he will take Picou's spot as the primary backup by mid-season.

I'd really like to see him in goal-line formation. Whether it be Fullback or RB I think he would be like Mike Alstout (the guy from the Bucs) about a decade ago. Crosby had that DAWG in him.

I'm guessing that Crosby won't be playing at his High School weight, but his 247 profile lists him at 330. At FB that would be more like "the Fridge." Either way, I think his potential at DT is huge. He would be 2nd to Emerson if he were in this class, and ahead of Litaker and Lawless. Kid has a high ceiling IMO.

There was an explicit gif posted in another thread by a poster whose name rhymes with putchna. It was a mortal combat gif where... um... finishing was involved.

Nothing "explicit" about it. Was from a video game and one had to take the leap to make it dirty. :)
