'17' TN ATH Tee Higgins (Clemson commit)

We've improved every year under Butch. We gave away some wins last year but by most experts expectations we overachieved. I would say Butch has one of the coldest seats in the SEC unless we somehow win less than 10 games.

That is true. We have gotten better each year. At the same time, I don't think we beat anyone last year that we were underdogs against except UGA. That spread was only -2.5. If we don't beat Florida this year and win 10 games, people are going to start jumping off the bandwagon.

Sorry bringing a sense of reality is throwing salt. Anyone who discounts Clemson's success the last 5 years on the field, recruiting trail, NFL draft success etc compared to us is either naive, stupid or blind homerism. It sucks losing a kid to anyone but acting like he made some inferior choice simply isn't true (other than its not UT so it's inferior). As much as some on here get tired of the negativity, pessimism etc. I get tired of the baseless homerism when discussing programs and/or recruits.

This is painful truth right here. Clemson is by no means an inferior team.

Yes, but he also turned down a chance to come back and coach here. Then rubbed it in our face. Not to mention the comments about Jalen Hurd being soft. He just seems to have a bad vibe going with UT right now.

UT offered Tee Martin a lateral move for less pay than SC offered. It was a bad offer, insincerely extended, and he turned it down... a lot more politely than many would've. He didn't rub anything in anybody's face. This irrational hatred of Tee Martin is ridiculous.

Me too. It doesnt seem like we have any players recruiting for us at the moment.

I don't like HJ that much regardless what the experts say. I honestly did not mind losing him cause his tape never seemed to impress me. I think JG is a much better QB and he was rated lower than HJ. He fits our offense perfectly too.

Well he certainly didn't have any problem taking our money when he was a player. And then running his mouth about it....

Yeah, so let's just forget about that national title because of some bad vides... Nothing you just mentioned has anything to do with our current recruiting struggles. We don't even know if Tee Martin was here that Amari Rodgers and Tee Higgins would be coming to UT. There is a lot we don't know.

Martin is a great recruiter and would have been a huge upgrade for us.

I'll give you that. Butch deserves a lot of credit we've come along way but we have to have double digit wins this year and a trip to Atlanta.

We will get QB recruits that fit our system because we have developed Dobbs well.
We will get RB recruits because we have a run-first offense where they can shine.
We will get OL recruits because we have developed a solid OL.
Same reasons why we will get DL, LB, and DB recruits. There are future NFL players on every level of our defense.
However, we have yet to develop a WR (into anything other than a great blocker), and couple that with the fact that it's a run-first offense where there are less opportunities for WR's to shine. Therefore we have more trouble recruiting WR's.

I love JG and think he could possibly have a higher ceiling than HJ. That being said, it just doesnt seem like any current player we have committed is doing any recruiting for us like Amari and HJ are doing for Clemson. And I dont know why that is.

And you've just provided a fine example of why Amari Rodgers isn't a big UT fan, why he's recruiting hard against us and why he'll continue to recruit against us.

And thats a pretty big problem to have that needs to be addressed.

How dare he.

"Higgins, Rodgers and Memphis Trezevant four-star running back Cordarrian Richardson are instate players committed to Clemson for the 2017 class. The Tigers also flipped Brownsburg (Ind.) five-star quarterback Hunter Johnson from the Vols last December".

You can maybe understand Rodgers (Tee's kid), but losing Rodgers, Richardson, and Higgins, as well as, flipping the qb...slightly concerned if we're expecting to push for National Championships!! Ok, this really is concerning!!!!

Because an anonymous poster on a message board made a remark about his father, who he allegedly has very little relationship with? Interesting.

plenty of WRs out there to get that you can win championships with. Easier to replace a miss at WR than the interior or at QB. Sucks to miss out on a big fish but it's not going to keep us from winning

If we were a pass first offense it would be a big problem. But for a run first offense - I'm not sure it is as big a problem as many of you are making it to be.

I suspect the TN connection is the issue for most and if Tee were from say FL or California, or insert any other state but TN, the comments on here would be very different and the sky would not be falling.

Crappabama is a run first, second and third offense. And they don't have great QBs either. They do get good ones, and get the most out of them. They have had no trouble ever in recruiting great WRs and piling them up like cordwood.

They were blessed to have an instate stud (Julio) to get the ball rolling for them. Once he ended up the sixth pick in the draft, Cooper and Ridley fell in line.

No. Because many UT fans hate on Tee-- on this forum and elsewhere. Kids read these comments, and they leave an impression.

HJ and TH will both flip back after UT beats Clemson in the CFPs. Sometimes it takes others jumping off a cliff before they realize it was a bad idea. It happens, I forgive them.

Sorry but I disagree this is a big deal. TN is not s state like Fla or Georgia that is loaded with talent every year. If we were, then this loss would not be as big. Higgins is one of, if not the best player in the state. Butch has talked about locking down the state. Which he has done a pretty good job of so far. Now Higgins may end up a Vol, but I think he is an EE which puts things in a little more desperate situation with him. We need Higgins and if we cannot flip him, then it will be a huge loss. No the sky is not falling, but this class is concerning to say the least.
