'17' TN ATH Tee Higgins (Clemson commit)

Nothing will happen even if TN gives the NCAA a video of the guy trying to gain a buck off Tee. The Tunsil news isn't new info. Both Bama and UGA turned OM in over it and they only did something this year because Miller went public, so they had to. All the NCAA cares about now if their slice of the TV contracts.

So I've got a theory on the lies being spread about UT by the handler.

I'm sure he's telling tee and family that all schools do this. That Tennessee has paid him personally for many players, so he knows they can. The narrative is probably "ut is refusing to give you the money, yet I've seen them pay more for less talented players. This tells me they don't place a high priority on you. If they did, they'd pony up and pay"

If I were to make a guess, the lies would simply be claims UT offered benefits just as Clemson did. One side left a paper trail, and the other didn't.

Just a guess.

I think you're probably right. They have to know that money changes hands every day at all schools, even schools not in the Power 5. I think that they accept it as a necessary evil and only go after the big boys when they have no other choice. Unless, you give a high school commit a hamburger, of course. :)

A BBQ! A BBQ! You got some nerve taking advantage of these kids like this!

Agreed. It's pathetic on how bad the NCAA is with handling situations like this one.

I don't remember the recruit, but it was stated that a guy choosing between us and another school wanted to see if we'd beat their offer. Jones said he doesn't play that game. I believe that. There are dirty programs. We aren't one of them.

Jones is a straight shooter. He fought harder than any coach I'm aware of to get the players the biggest stipend possible. He wants the guys to have spending money. He also wants to do it by the rules.

I'm with the ETSU guy here. These are nothing but rumors at this point. And even if other programs aren't playing by the rules (and I'm sure not all do), that has no bearing on our program.

You're struggling badly at reading comprehension of the quote from OV; the one that I reposted.

Who's to say that those quotes were accurate ?I know all you did was refer to those quotes ,but who knows ?

All I've seen is the kid kept saying Tennessee was still his leader . Anything else is left to question the people doing the reporting.

Crunchy keeps saying he must've missed this or that yet he's argued vehemently about something he either completely missed or failed to comprehend.

And yes, this may all be a complete fabrication. I find it odd though that several people not connected to each other all have similar "stories".

You guys are sad. We don't get a recruit we want so there must have been money involved. We have had a helluva recruiting run since CBJ arrived. Money involved there too?

I am not going to pretend to know what is true and what isn't but what I believe is:

- Some schools do offer money, some do not and play by the rules.

- Some of the top recruits will play the game using the schools that do offer money to try to get something from the schools that don't where they really may want to go too.

- In the end they have to decide if the $$s matter or not with the understanding that IF they don't perform when they get to the school that offered $$s the $$s will more than likely no longer be available to them or their family.

If they are really looking to better themselves in the long run, they will choose a school where they can get a good education in the area they are interested in that will sustain them after their playing days are over.

A career can end with an injury. A great player in high school may not cut it at the college level. A good player in college may not cut it at the NFL level. The stakes and the competition gets more insane as one climbs that latter - be it in football or in life. At some point they become just one of the other players at their position with the same number of stars and the same potential competing for playing time.

Sometimes we forget these are 16 - 18 year olds that have never worked a day in their life. Is it any wonder with this craziness with parents selling their kids to the highest bidder that many of them have problems later in life coping with the simple aspects of life.

The NCAA basically just made throwing money around fair game when it did nothing about Cam Newton. Now all you have to do is make sure it doesn't get blown up in the media and they'll look the other way.

Apparently you need to do some reading, I do believe someone who charges their own rhetoric with personal shots would be emotional charged. I'm simple dealing with the lack of proof and facts associated with this rumor.

Oh, I did some reading and much like you didn't buy into the theory that anything was dirty initially. Then several things happened:

1. Butch tweeted his usual cryptic tweet indicating a commitment was coming. With 5 oranges.
2. Every insider said he was coming
3. He then commits to Clemson and shutting it down despite always being close to coaches and other players on team.
4. He then starts taking a negative tone towards UT despite naming us his leader a month prior.
5. Writers for Vol sites claim the coaches were shocked

Then ericvol posts something innocuous. I didn't buy in.

Then the most accurate and knowledgeable insider on this board who normally only comments on Georgia kids suddenly and without solicitation speaks on the matter.

That's when I took all the above and it made sense. I don't have anything against you etsu but am curious why you are so aggressively taking the counterpoint.

Do you know Tee personally?

No one is claiming any of this as fact, so yeah, they are just rumors. That seems like stating the obvious.

As for it having no bearing on our program, IF Clemson is paying players, then it absolutely has a bearing on our team. They have Tee Higgins and we don't. How is it not obvious that their alleged misdeeds have affected our program?

Assuming all this is true - how awesome would it be to just take the money and commit... then sign with someone else on signing day? I mean... what are they gonna do? Tell on you?

It happens. As bad as it sounds, some season ending injuries you see that look very questionable on replay could point to a little payback for such scenarios. TIFWIW

Until the NCAA comments if that ever happens, what kind of proof do you expect? This is a fan site!

Normally agree but when a guy like OV says something about it then there is def something to it. He has never said anything like that on this board and is extremely well connected

Yep. Agreed. Because he said it, I'm intrigued. I was actually trying to call someone's bluff yesterday in this thread before I saw OV post about it.

But I also agree with the view we may never hear another word about it. It's filed away though in case it ever comes to light.
