'17 MS RB Cam Akers (FSU commit 12/27)

From JAV on 247's board:

"This might help you a bit. I saw him 3 times on FSU's campus this summer. He's pretty much been a lean/almost lock there for sometime. He was genuinely interested in UT but not enough to sway him from where he really wants to be."

so confused

He's wrong I tell you! Wrong!

So some poster says he is a lock to FSU and another says he will be a Vol 🤔 Sounds like NOBODY KNOWS and it's all a bunch of opinions

Wasn't he saying we had a very good chance to get Akers just a few days ago?

I don't believe in the coach so rather than hoping he proves me wrong I hope we lose so my opinions are validated. Great logic

Can you list the reasons anyone SHOULD believe that Jones is a championship caliber? He built a resume on beating bad teams that got him the UT job. He'd never beaten a ranked team and had a losing record against teams with winning records prior to arriving at UT. That's a mediocre coach.

He's recruited better than expected at UT but isn't a good game day coach. His management of the program has been good in off the field respects but not so much in ways that directly impact winning.... S&C, program attrition, player development, staff selection/management....

What he has proven he can do well simply doesn't add up to championships. What he has struggled with... adds up to mediocre.

Hasn't he won championships in every conference he has head coached in? By using your own logic, shouldn't he win a SEC championship at UT?

A bit easier to do at non power 5 teams

Absolutely. However, he's acting like his coaching style doesn't add up to championships. History tells us otherwise. The question now is will he make the needed adjustments to make himself a conference champion in the SEC. He has done it before, why not here.

So I'm not allowed to be upset after an embarrassing loss and then over time reflect upon the season and realize that while I wasn't happy with the results I still support butch?

I also take offense if you're referring to me as a fair weather fan. I grew up and supported the vols during the final two fulmer years, through the kiffin debacle, and then through the Derek Dooley years so I'm about as far from a fair weather fan as possible

I do think there's a generation of Vol fans that woke up on 3rd base and thought they'd hit a triple in the 90's and early 2000's. Now that they've seen the other side of the coin, they want to take some magic pill to get back to the halcyon days of old or pay whatever it takes to get the latest coach en vogue to come to Knoxville. Same ones that think Gruden or Cowher or Peyton are coming to save the day. It just seems to me that it takes our fanbase a little longer to look at a hot horseshoe than it ought to. 4 years in and ready to throw in the towel. We got what we deserved for not appreciating what we had when we were riding the wave that everybody wants to ride. I think anyone that wants to take a step back and try all of it again is short sighted. If that shoe fits, then be offended.

I've learned to disregard anything that has "smoke" and "Vol" in the same thought.

Seems very likely Akers is FSU bound and that is okay, because Chandler is a fantastic RB.
