'17 MS RB Cam Akers (FSU commit 12/27)

What are the recruits of other schools saying

Well I don't twitter, but I did take a peek at his to see and the only person I recognized in the last couple weeks besides UT commits was Tate Martell at OSU. I'm just holding out hope. If "recruiting experts" don't know then I certainly don't.

I'm fine. The assessment is essentially about eliminating FSU and Ole Miss. No heavy lifting otherwise.

Zero chance I'd eliminate FSU right now, they have the mo and are pressing the hardest. They've visited 3x in the last 9 days, don't spend that type of money/time not thinking you have a shot. That said, LSU is hard to ignore, a lot depends on who they hire as OC, same goes for OM. Will be another update tomorrow on 247, presumably from the FSU site.

LSU site said the Akers family expected all 5 final schools to stop by on Sunday including TN, yet nothing about the visit from VQ or GV247.

Hey, I am 50 and I get confused on so many levels. It's not so bad. The field concept I do understand and it is in relation to UT or the field. But just having fun. I mean some of us have to uphold the moranic traditions of this thread. Go Vols.

You carry that flag with pride and conviction.

No, he's saying the smart money is on it being either TN, OSU or LSU. He didn't break down the odds between them. That's the concept of "the field."

OK. I'll concede Fortenberry's statement was ambiguous. Any lack of understanding I might have is on him. :) If the implication is that the Vols are in the field then why did others read it as a one in three chance. Is he trolling or is it click-bait. Uh, I can't think of any more question for right now. My sources are telling me that it's Sunday night and there is no announcement yet.

Hey you're just a snap. Defending confusion is one of the great lost art forms. That said, you may have a modicum of a chance.

In gambling events, there are times when you can bet on certain inviduals (or teams) to win vs "the field." "The field" means everyone else that is competing that is not one of the individuals you can bet on.

So in this instance what Fort was saying is that if you were betting between the Vols vs The Field, the smart money would be on the field - meaning the smart money is he chooses somewhere else over Tennessee.

I think you could also deduct from his statement that if it were UT, OSU and LSU vs The field, the smart money would be against the field.

I do think we are in it. Just think Fort would bet the field over UT which makes him think our chances are 49 percent or less which is better than most of us felt a little over a week ago.

It would help if we had a "probability index" for common phrases of chance employed by Fortenberry.

I mean, "this is a science." Come on down Cam!

Edit: "t" in that phrase is in desperate need of an antecedent.

After I ate all the oatmeal cookies all that was left for me was the camaraderie of VN, and alas I have come off as a curmudgeon. Take heed you whipper-snappers. Gillespie, Trey Smith, Ignont's call: Cam Akers, you will look good in Volunteer orange.

"Elsewhere, Tennessee is continuing to key in on running backs. Travis Etienne could be one to watch heading in to January. The Vols and Texas A&M have been thought as the teams to beat, but Tennessee had two coaches at his basketball game late last week we also know LSU was there as well. Could the Tigers get involved there come January and shake things up? And what does that say about where LSU is with Cam Akers? Who knows?

It seems no one has a good feel for where things are with Akers. Tennessee was a team that coming out of an in home visit a weeks ago seemed to have a bunch of momentum. We know that Akers and Trey Smith have talked for several weeks. Smith's commitment on Tuesday seemed to add momentum for the Vols. Plus the private thought process that those two wanted to play together seemed to be putting two and two together. We aren't sure how much dialogue Tennessee has had since Wednesday, but the feeling over the last day or two has not been as much Tennessee leaving you to wonder if something changed during the week or if Akers has just gone quiet about the entire process.
