'17 MS RB Cam Akers (FSU commit 12/27)

ESPN recruiting analyst, Gerry Hamilton just said on ESPN's Recruiting Nation that this was a Tennessee-Florida St. battle with Ohio St. in there too.

Well FSU just got smoked. OSU is loaded at RB. We have to win some big games. Let's start with the Gators.

Us and FSU sounds about right because like you said OSU is loaded at RB. We need UNC and Clemson to beat FSU. And we need to play much better on the OL. I think we can land Akers.

Akers is a good runner from the QB spot. I think that gives him an advantage because he gets to read defenses pre and post snap. He is not going to have that luxury when he gets to college. It will be more like here is the ball and you are to run here. His game is based on being able to read defenses (in HS) and I was wondering what others think about transitioning from QB to RB?

IMO, Akers is a natural RB who just happens to be an outstanding HS QB. I believe his combination of size (5-11, 213), power & truly elite speed will enable him to make a seamless transition to RB.

These eyes saw Walter Payton play at Columbia High School. These eyes saw Marcus Dupree play at Philadelphia. They saw Jerious Norwood play at Brandon, Deuce McAllister at Morton and Jimmy Johns at Brookhaven. But these eyes have never seen a better Mississippi high school football player than Cam Akers, Clinton’s 17-year-old wunderkind, whom I saw in person for the first time here Thursday night.

Akers runs with the power of Payton and the speed and shiftiness of Norwood, which is probably why so many college recruiters and all the recruiting services project him as a running back. Often times, he doesn’t even acknowledge the first guy that hits him. He just just runs through the would-be tackler without so much as a hitch or pause. And then, when he gets in the open field, he dodges defenders off their feet.

Last night Akers rushed for 203 yards and 2 TDs (67 & 71 yards) on 19 carries, also completed 12 of 22 passes for 192 yards.

Really hope he was watching today's game. Huge Win for us not just on field but in recruiting too. When is he OV? If we get the duo of him and Chandler huge!

Would be surprised if he left the state of Mississippi other than possibly Alabama or LSU. For whatever reason Mississippi athletes rarely venture too far from the state.

That is a true statement in general terms. It is not a rule though. This appears to be a different case. By most indications he WILL leave the state.
