'17 MS RB Cam Akers (FSU commit 12/27)

UT is being heavily negatively recruited right now. These kids are hearing the same consistent message from all the Power 5 coaches about the VOLS and it ain't good. Butch must win this year to turn this thing around. And, if he can coach, he will with the talent he has now. Stay tuned.:)

Uh....this thing is already turned around.

You trying to tell me OTHER SCHOOLS are saying unflattering things about the schools they're recruiting against? :eek:hmy: Pause, while I tell my lungs to contract and expand.

Not according to a good number of posters on multiple boards. As far as they are concerned, Butch Jones has proved nothing. As others have said, Tennessee fans are putting a ton of pressure on Butch Jones to win the SEC East this season and perhaps make the playoffs or the New Year's Six this season. I am sure coaches are telling prospects that if for any reason Tennessee falters and does not meet the expectations, he could be gone.

From what I hear, this tactic worked pretty well with Trevor Lawrence. I will add that Lawrence's game is much more suited to a traditional style offense. You can also add that other than one position, we are not offering immediate playing time anymore.

Winning the SEC East at a minimum isn't unreasonable at all. Anything less and IMO Butch and staff are asking for trouble. Tennessee SHOULD be playing in that game. No excuses.

I don't disagree that it is reasonable to expect us to be representing the East in the SEC title game.

Where we differ is in the statement that anything less and Butch and staff are asking for trouble. This schedule is not a cakewalk. We do have back to back road games with Georgia and Texas A&M surrounded by home games against Florida and Alabama. What if we lose to Georgia in Athens and end up losing the East to them with an 11 - 1 regular season record?

I know that may be a far-fetched idea, but no more far-fetched than the reality that Florida won the SEC East last year. Now I don't think that anyone in their right mind would call for Butch Jones head in that situation. But, definitive expectations like what you posted, believe it or not, will be copied and showed to recruits to support the notion that Butch Jones has to win the East or be fired.

I know many either do not believe that schools use messages from boards against a school. I also know that if they do believe it, they hold it against the prospect for being gullible enough to believe it.

IIRC All of the other SEC teams play an SEC schedule. You are either a player or not when it comes to championships. The schedule is no excuse. Some people would be jumping off bridges if we had to play a SEC west schedule.

Your right, the schedule is not an excuse and I am not making it an excuse. All I am saying is that things happen every year that have a positive or negative impact on a team. They cannot be predicted and they cannot be glossed over. I remember just last year we were hopeful for a better season. We got it. But, just imagine how much better it could have been had Rashaun Gaulden, Preston Williams, Justin Martin, Von Reeves, Pig Howard, Jashon Robertson and Kahlil McKenzie had been healthy and able to play a full season.
What if Curt Maggitt does not get lost for the season against Oklahoma?

All of that contributed to us losing against Oklahoma, Florida and Arkansas. I am not sure any of that would have impacted Alabama. But, none of it was Butch Jones fault and he was not and should not have been held responsible for it.

One of these is not like the others, just time-warped back to my grad school days on the hill.

Well done. I was thinking about the Von Reeves fake field goal play against Florida in 1990 the other day. My first game as a 10 year old Vols fan, and what a game it was.

Per Hubbs

Tennessee continues to battle for running back Cam Akers and after a recent visit to Florida State the Seminoles feel they are legitimate options. But, FSU isn't alone in feeling that as Tennessee and Ohio State are in that category as well.

All three expect to receive official visits this fall and LSU and Ole Miss could receive the other two for Akers.

I don't live & breathe in this Forum...I don't have the brains, patience or thick skin to play too deep here...but...

I really would like to see this kid in Tennessee Orange. He just looks like something special, and I think QB JG is gonna need an ELI7E ground attack to go with that arm.

Now...back to the FF...
