'17 MS RB Cam Akers (FSU commit 12/27)

He'll be gone to Ohio. Sucks sitting back watching Clemson, Ohio State, Alabama, and GA take everyone.

What is going on? First it was get wins, be a top 10 team. We're there.

Then We thought it was the lawsuit,
but that ain't changed nothing.

Some say it's still too early, which I agree to some degree, but it's not hampering Clemson, Ohio State, Alabama, and GA. We've even had kids commit, then jump off.

Last year, it was playing time. We have that to offer again.

Now it's win the SEC and close out close games. And this staff knows what they're doing. No, we're taking what's left pretty much.

WTF is really going on? I wish these kids would say why they really didn't pick us.
Ex: I don't trust their scheme.

Or

Outside of Dobbs, Hurd, and AK. They don't have any help.

Etc.

This is a very important class. I hope come signing day, we're all laughing at how freaked out we were over nothing, but I don't think that's going to bethe case

Bet I could guess who gave you the 5 likes on this wonderful post!!

I think you've already been proven wrong. And if you think he had no effect on that OL, I'm not sure which sport you're watching.

Nope, impossible to prove either way. Didn't like the hire from day one, still don't. I agree he's been beneficial to the Oline, never said otherwise.

But the INCREASE in rushing production was due to "freshmen and second year players" just figuring it out? If the production had stayed put or even regressed, would you have said that it wasn't his fault? You're not a DeBord fan...won't try to change that but to spin it as progress is players coaching themselves and failure is all coaching isn't very rational of you. Calling him the "worst hire" is patently ridiculous. The offense didn't function by osmosis and bested Bajakian's best effort. I'll go with Coach Jake as worst hire.

When I say worst hire I'm talking about since his initial staff. Who would you rate below him, Shoop? Scott?, Gillespie? Am I missing someone?

I've said on numerous occasions that he did wonders with the o-line, but is that not the o-line coaches job? Look, I get it. Some of you guys love Debord. I'm not one of them. It's the coordinators job to develop the whole offense, not just the rushing attack. When we develop a real passing game I will change my opinion. And I do think that a huge percentage of the running game gains was because of another year where our young o-line developed mentally and physically and the same with Jalen Hurd. In addition, Josh Dobbs' maturity and increase in strength had a lot to do with it too. :hi:

The same can be said if the passing improves this year.

Gillespie might as well have been "initial"...coached the first season. He's been a very good RUNNING BACKS coach and recruiting coordinator AND yeah... I'd rate him below DeBord. No doubt in my mind that Shoop is a home run hire but until he coaches a game, that's an opinion. Love the addition of Scott...definitely below DeBord...even if every tight end he coaches becomes an All-American. Position coaches V coordinators...different animals. As for your Hurd point, doesn't matter how strong you are if 4 defensive players are on you in the backfield. As DeBord employs more of the offset I Hurd will achieve Hulk status...and that'll be another feather on DeBord's bald head. :)

It's all conjecture and opinion mine just happens to differ from yours (I'm right though :))

For OL it's supposed to be later than that. It why the older guys do so much better

I don't think anyone would argue that the more experience the better but I could see them make the biggest leap from year one to year two. I think that's the general consensus.

For a guy like Preston williams I would agree whole heartedly.

He might single handedly turn this offense into a stretch the defense threat

I think most all players will make their biggest leap from year one to year two. I would like some feedback from people that experienced it in the last several years. Look at what has happened with KMac.

I think it is interesting that, depending on the thread, you either read that winning is the key to recruiting or that recruiting is the key to winning. I think both are true to a large extent, but that is why big changes in a program take time. One class doesn;'t make your program nor does it destroy it. One season doesn't suddenly convince everyone to join up. It;s a growth process and to go from where we went to where we want to be takes time. It took LSU time, it took Clemson time, it took Florida time, it took Georgia time, and still they aren't permanent winners. I'm convinced we will get where we want to be, whether this year or in the future. CBJ will win a lot of big games. Maybe this year, maybe not. A step forward in results would likely result in a step forward in recruiting, and vice versa.

When the players you want are sought after by, say, Bama, OSU, FSU, Clemson, Georgia, and Ole Miss... and most are... you can only expect to get one out of seven that all of those are in on ( based just on the math). Throw in LSU and Auburn... every school misses on way more recruits than they get. Those programs are a little more established than we are right now, but we will get a few, have some success, get a few more, and eventually be the preferred stop. But it is a growth process, and every at-bat won't be a home run. I'm okay with that as long as we are competitive and the effort is there. The results will come at some point, hopefully sooner rather than later.

Long winded, but it has been on my mind reading all the "must get, must win 12 must beat (team A)..." stuff that people keep posting. There is a reason they call it rebuilding.

Very good post.

Get over yourself and move on.

UT is being heavily negatively recruited right now. These kids are hearing the same consistent message from all the Power 5 coaches about the VOLS and it ain't good. Butch must win this year to turn this thing around. And, if he can coach, he will with the talent he has now. Stay tuned.:)
