'17 MS RB Cam Akers (FSU commit 12/27)

Why do none of us have confidence about this guy? Supposedly he's close with coach G but I have no confidence we land him.

Why not? Dooley somehow landed Cordarrelle Patterson at the same time 3 star bench warmers were decommitting in 2012. Anything can happen.

Funny you bring up CP. I was just thinking earlier that if we can get CP into school we should be able to get one of Payton or Murphy in too.

Sorry it took so long, I know yall have been waiting on my report... After breaking down all the film and looking at the stats, I came to the conclusion both Akers and Chandler could contribute to Tennessee in a positive way.

Akers didn’t make it a secret that he still likes Tennessee, though, and that his comfort level with the situation in Knoxville under head coach Butch Jones and running backs coach Robert Gillespie rivals his comfort level for any other program on his list.

“I definitely like Coach Gillespie,” Akers said. “Coach Gillespie’s recruiting me well. Those other coaches are, as well. Coach Jones and everybody else there, it’s the same. It’s a family feel, and I’ve been there as much as anywhere. I’ve been up there a lot. They’ve definitely got a family feel, and I keep going back.”

Tennessee’s situation at running back and the Vols’ track record with starting true freshmen running backs help their cause in Akers’ mind, as well. It’s no secret that star junior running backs Jalen Hurd and Alvin Kamara will strongly consider entering the NFL Draft after this season, and Akers is well aware of that.

“Just the way they’re not afraid to throw a freshman in the mix (is big),” Akers said. “Obviously at running back, Jalen Hurd came in as a true freshman and had a great season, and they’ve played freshmen ever since then.
