'17 MS RB Cam Akers (FSU commit 12/27)

Yep.

I go by film not stars. I watched both Akers and Stevens and was not overly impressed. Neither looked explosive.

So far the only 5 star guys I have seen is Tee Higgins and Justin Foster.

But you just said Akers was elite because he's a 5*? Now you say you go by film not starts... LOL and Justin Foster is a 4*, so I guess he isn't elite

D4H has a grossly inflated view of his own expertise.

He looks at the same highlight videos that everyone else sees. Those recruiting him, the fan focused recruiting sites, and especially the recruiting svcs hired by big schools watch the players in person AND watch whole game film. They also have true info or very good approximations of a player's TRUE size, strength, speed, and quickness.

None the less, you can depend on D4H to declare that he is better at evaluating players than all those guys are. There is a good reason that pretty much everyone is after Akers.

When I hear that we got a commit or are trying to get someone, I watch their hudl film. I don't evaluate it like some apparently do.

I'm with you. I occasionally watch the film but mainly just listen to what people on here are saying or the recruiting analysts. I've learned generally to trust the analysts - they tend to be mostly right particularly when they all align on someone. If some is a 3 star or lower then I've learned to listen for why - if I hear they are big but slow, I worry (Dooley recruit). If I hear they are fast but need to add weight then I normally fine, as long as we don't need to rely on them anytime soon.

I tried watching the film early in my time on here but I quickly learned I don't know anything. I thought guys like Alden Hill were going to be diamond in the rough studs that would significantly outperform their rating and I was wrong.

When recruiting services do not agree with D4H, then things get dicey. Take Akers for example. He is being persued by almost every major powerhouse CF program and is rated as the #2 RB in the country. Obviously Saban, Fisher, Miles, Meyer, Butch and many other coaches consider him elite. All the recruiting services consider him elite. But because D4H doesnt consider him elite, he isnt and those that disagree with him dont know what they are talking about.

D4H is probably more qualified than all of them put together. We should NOT question him. He has a special gift being able to watch and understand film. I recommend cancelling any subscriptions to recruiting websites and only follow D4H on Volnation. We should be thanking him for sharing his unparalleled insight.

Through rain, shine, and nuclear apocalypse D4H watches all things unblinking. He has the eyes of the Turtle.

First of all hudl and youtube only shows highlights, which any real coach knows isn't the whole story. Secondly hudls highlights of Akers show explosiveness and athleticism of an sec running back in my humble opinion. Trey coleman iirc on the other hand does not look like he possesses the athleticism necessary for sec ball. Hope he either gets recruited over by cam or some other guys we are in on or I am wrong.

True story I sent a video out when I was being recruited for basketball of a game when I played terrible. Coach called me and ask why I did that. I told him that was the worst game of my career and I'm working my ass off to make sure it never happens again. Then told him to come watch a game in person and see for himself what I can do. Long story short, he came. 27 points 12 boards, 4 assist later I had an offer.

How can you watch Colemans highlights and say he doesn't have athleticism for this level? Crazy. Kid is a really good fit for our offense and underrated.

I am not critical of taking Coleman because the staff has seen him up close, but in everyones defense that has the opinion that it is not a good pickup, in his highlight film he doesn't seem to be moving that fast at times.

Interesting. I'm no talent scout, but to me he looks plenty quick and fast. I just question his physicality.

I doubt the coaches would take his commitment if they didn't see something worth taking a chance on though.

I don't disagree. The thing that is weird to me, in his highlight film sometimes he looks very fast, agile and quick, while others it looks like he is running in mud. Maybe it was just the angles or something in those particular highlights, I don't know. Like I said though I'm not critics of taking Coleman, the staff has seen him up close, and I assume they have watched his agiity/quickness drills and such. IIRC he camped right? So they know what the are getting. It wouldn't surprise me to see him blow up this year.

Pretty much how I feel. Hopefully the staff knows something we all don't and Coleman is more John Kelly than Rocky Reid.

After hearing our coaches are pressing harder for 3 stars Ross and Locklear than 4 starTJ Moore? They either KNOW more than us or think they do. Wouldn't bet against it. :)

I'll never bet against our staff knowing more than the VN faithful. But they have shown a tendency over the past few years to take guys early who don't pan out later.

I agree our staff has picked up some that haven't panned out.
Do you find that any different or in larger percentages than other schools?

I haven't checked but just at a glance, I thought we may even be on the higher end of 3 stars turning into respected talent.

"Tendency" to take a few who blew up later in the year...nice balance. We have way more success stories than failures IMO...at least enough to completely overhaul the talent level on this team. For every Raulerson, there are two Chance Halls. :)

We have 11 All-SEC players and 6 Preseason All Americans per Athlon. LSU and Alabama have slightly more I think. Now go compare the high school recruiting rankings of ours to theirs and I bet ours were on average lower. And think of all those UGA 4 and 5 stars that aren't on those lists.

Our staff recruits AND develops, which most of the SEC doesn't do.
