'17 MS RB Cam Akers (FSU commit 12/27)

I remember when he finished the season for Dooley thinking the only bowl he was going to see was that haircut he had.

Akers is at the Rivals 5 star challenge this week. He was asked about OM chances, he said he wants to see them open up more of a running game this year. Asked about if allegations/penalties will impact his decision, same answer, wait and see.

"Cam Akers is still scheduled to be in as well (Orange Carpet Day) and there's not much new going on there. Georgia is heavily in the mix, Ohio State, LSU as well. Ole Miss is in play but I still think one of those first four schools is a likely landing spot. I will say he and Gillespie have grown rather tight."

Gillespie gonna make the difference! I hope so, anyway. Perfect opportunity for Akers, to step in right from the get go.

I think we'll incorporate more of the offset I this season, and that will appeal to the power backs.

My guess is Ohio State.

He's looking to start as a freshmen.

Ohio State has a Redshirt Freshmen with star potential in Mike Weber that has a chance to be the next Ezekiel Elliott at Ohio State.

I think Tennessee and Georgia are his most likely landing spots because I expect Hurd, Kamara, Chubb, and Michel to go pro. And the starting RB spot at both those schools will be open.

Per P Fort

Robert Gillespie has been recruiting the 5-foot-11, 220-pound back for three years and the two Magnolia State natives have grown close.

“I can relate to him. We’re from the same state,” Akers said. “We’re both from Mississippi so I can relate. We’ve been through some of the same struggles so we can definitely relate to each other. He’s a personable guy, too, and I can see him coaching me in the future.”

Akers has been keeping a close eye on the running back situation at Tennessee and likes several things.

First, he knows that there’s a good chance both Alvin Kamara and Jalen Hurd are leaving for the NFL after next year and also likes that Hurd starred as a freshman.

He believes he can play a similar role if Tennessee was the choice.

“I definitely see myself being able to do that. Of course, having another guy in the rotation able to help out is always good but I definitely see myself as going to a place and being the man right out of the gate,” Akers said. “Coach G been talking about that to me for the longest time.

“I like the way they use them. They have a 1,000-yard rusher and that’s always a big deal. Then, they have versatility with their running backs. They are able to do a lot.”

Akers said he knows that three things will be of major importance when it comes to his eventual decision.

“It’s going to be about recruiting my family, recruiting me and the situation in terms of playing time,” Akers said. “I look at it all. Of course I want to be a 1,000-yard rusher and I want to catch the ball, too and be in the open space and being able to do something with it. Anything to get the ball in my hands.”

Akers is in for a busy summer as he has plans to see several of the schools in his top group like LSU, Auburn, Georgia, Ohio State and Ole Miss and Tennessee. Akers is scheduled to be in Knoxville next weekend for the Orange Carpet Day and it’s not about what he hasn’t seen in Knoxville, but it’s about building more relationships.

“There’s really not much more to see. I have a feel for Gillespie, I’ve known him since my ninth grade year, but I want to get to know the rest of the coaching staff and make sure it could be a great situation.”
