'17 MS RB Cam Akers (FSU commit 12/27)

I could offer you over a dozen more that prove it.

I'm just saying those are two examples that disprove your belief that "the NCAA only drops the hammer when the violation transcends football."

Feel free to name all the cases to the contrary you'd like, but you're the one speaking in absolutes, not me. It only takes one hole to sink a ship.

Good snapshot article about 10 years of violations. Look at that list do you remember hearing about any substantial penalties for any of those schools really?

No, but 90% of the schools on that list are irrelevant in the national spectrum.

I'm not saying the NCAA is a fair, balanced, consistent, or sensible institution. My point is that they have done more against some bigger schools than you are giving credit for. There are plenty of reasons to dislike and criticize the NCAA without creating artificial ones. You listed some good examples (UNC, Miami), but what they did to USCw and Bama were thought by many to be unfair at the time in spite of their violations. So, while they may be somewhat selective in their enforcement and punishment on the whole, they have nailed flagship programs befor, and even within the last 10 years.

I definitely defer to Ryan but I've heard pretty strongly for some time now we will be very happy.
Also I continue to hear we are a legit threat for Akers as I've noted on here before. Not ready to concede that one in the least.

Who is the first portion of that quote referring to? Trey Smith?

So cool we both have examples i am of the opinion that ole miss will become another one of mine. We shall see.

the NCAA wrote the book on ignoring. Even if they do get hit it will be years down the road. That is the NCAA secret, they investigate for years until everyone forgets why they investigated in the first place all the while keeping their palms open for the boosters of the university to grease away. The only time they really drop the hammer is when the violations transcend sport i.e. Penn State.

The Miami and UNC cases sealed the deal for me. The NCAA is worthless as a policing body.

Unless hotdogs are involved then they are like the Gestapo. Anyone heard any rumors of hotdogs at Ole Miss? As long as it's just cash they will be safe. Hotdogs though could get the death penalty.

FWIW, most osu insiders are calling Akers to stay in the south (not osu).

Guesses about where he goes vary, but the consensus is not Ohio.

If the possible NCAA sanctions don't deter him from Ole Miss, that loss to Vandy might.

I'm hoping Cam is taking a close look at our offense with AK and JK being the primary backs. We look so much different with them than we did with Hurd as the featured back.

Having said that, this makes me question the staffs' decision to feature Hurd over Kamara this year and last. It's painfully obvious AK is better suited for our offense, so why would they not make him the featured back? Maybe it's loyalty to a fault, but you have to do what gives your team the best chance for success. JMO, but they should have given Dormady a chance in the SCar game. Dobbs obviously was having an off night and they have given QD a chance to change things up a bit. Butch just seems to be unwilling to rock the boat when there are times the boat needs to be rocked. Might have saved us the loss against SCar.

Hope they can convince Akers he is a great fit for our offense!

I think Butch knew they wouldn't be able to run some power-I so he tried to give heard the ball as much as possible and let him try and be the man in certain situations.

I think it's been down to FSU and UT for awhile now imo.

Until Akers actually makes another visit to Knoxville, I don't see any chance of us getting him. At this point, he has scheduled 4 official visits and can schedule 1 more. He has been to FSU and Michigan and is scheduled to be at Ohio State this weekend. That leaves Ole Miss, Alabama, Tennessee and LSU vying for visits before the dead period.

The fact that we are not in the SEC title game may work to our advantage here. But, if he does not visit, I see no reason to believe he comes here.
