“Honestly, I was about to drop maybe five — either five or four — but someone told me to just go ahead and do eight right now, so I was like, ‘OK. I’ll just go ahead and do eight right now,’” said Allen, who’s ranked the nation’s No. 359 overall prospect and No. 22 weakside defensive end in the 247Sports Composite for the 2017 class. “(My leader is) pretty obvious in my mind right now. But I’m not saying something right now until after everything is over and done with. I’ll give other teams a chance.”

Tennessee on Saturday for the third time in a little more than three months, and he said he enjoyed spending time with the Vols’ coaches and some of their current players during a laid-back day of fun and games.

“It was good. I liked it,” he said. “I guess theme-wise it was about the same (as previous visits). But it was a different vibe. The first time, it seemed like it was a few selected players and the coaches and family and all that stuff. But this time it was everyone. You got a more true vibe of the Tennessee football family and all that stuff, and that’s real good to see.”

Tennessee coach Butch Jones, defensive coordinator Bob Shoop, defensive line coach Steve Stripling and defensive graduate assistant Nathan Ollie all talked with Allen during the visit, along with Vols sophomore defensive end Austin Smith, a fellow native of Buford, Ga.

“Since he came from Buford and all that stuff, we were all chilling pretty much the whole day,” Allen said. “I didn’t know him (before). But I got to know him a little bit.”

“Tennessee treats their players good. The way they recruit their players and the way that they coach their players, it’s the same,” he said. “They say the way they treat you as a recruit, once you commit to them and join the team, that whole vibe doesn’t change. Whatever they say, they’ll do. That’s what Austin told me. He said they’re real good to you, and then the Vol For Life team once you leave, it’s real good.”

want to commit after the five official visits, just because it looks good,” Allen said. “A few coaches were talking about how players that commit to them and still take their official visits means to them that their mind is still open for their recruitment. So I might just take my five and then commit. I don’t know.

“I might just do that, just to go see the other schools.”

Question on 247 about Michael Allen and Tyler Taylor:

Did whatever transpired between the coaches and Taylor have any affect on Allen?

Callahan's response:

No, I don't think that will have really any impact on Allen. Nothing bad happened there. Tennessee just ran out of room for him, basically. But I haven't gotten the impression that Allen and Taylor are really close friends or that they're hoping to go to the same school or anything. I've talked with Allen since all of that happened, and he's still high on Tennessee.

This is a guy that I've been expecting to commit for a while and am surprised there hasn't been a lot of talk about.

Clemson doesn't appear to have offered yet. If they do then we can spill to "All is lost" discussion from every other thread over into this one. :yahoo:

Clemson will fill up eventually. That's when we unleash the hounds!

Beal is more of a LB, especially in GA's defense. Allen is excellent looking DE in our style of defense.

one of these things is not like the other. actually 2 of them are not like the others.

I still have a hard time seeing us being in this.

May be a situation where a couple of the options are his favorite fall backs if the top 4 pass or fill up.

We've got Lawson onboard. If Bumphus is a TE as he's said he is at least to start out we may still be involved here. Is Bembry a DE or a LB? LiL Gaddy is possibly a DE when they commit.

Going out on a limb and saying Wake Forest here. I think he put in USC and us to make it look good for Wake Forest, like they beat out 2 heavyweights for him.

I am afraid it does not matter who he picks, unless he picks USC. If he picks Tennessee, the star gazers will have cardiac arrest and if he picks Wake Forest, the nega Vols will be out in force claiming that we cannot even beat out Wake Forest for a recruit. If he picks USC, then maybe the negative vibes will be minimal, but I am sure that some will still find ways to spin it badly.
