Grant Williams went for 13pts 10rbd 6blk against Kentucky commit Bam Adebayo, fwiw Bam is a legit 6'9", I would say Williams is most definitely 6'6" and possibly pushing 6'7"
Grant Williams and Providence Day will be playing against Greensboro Day (Defending 3A NC State Champions) tonight at 5:00pm. Check it out here: http://thecube.com/event/574194
Agreed. Yes, height is important but as cliche as it sounds, sometimes heart is more important. This kid has it in spades. Plays incredibly hard and wills his team to wins. Love that.
DeJuan Blair is a 6'6" power forward who has made a career out of being a NBA player, it can definitely be done. The positive thing I take is that Williams has known from playing EYBL he's undersized, so he has developed his game with that knowledge. It's easy for a 6'6" public school kid to still bully most opponents every night, get to college and realize that's not gonna work, Williams has develop a good handle, a developing perimeter shot, and is a savy/crafty player who finds ways to get his shot up.
DeJaun Blair, is a great comparison. He was GREAT at Pittsburgh. On top of that, he had no meniscuses.
According to MaxPreps, Grant Williams Providence Day team is currently ranked #1 in North Carolina. Not too shabby.
That's putting in work right there. Do you think if he was 6'8-6'9 instead of 6'5-6'6 he'd be rated higher? Just curious
Even I - king of the skeptics - think that. At 6-8 or 6-9, he'd be top 100 easy. Now, he just turned 17, so I suppose there is an opportunity to grow a bit. As of now, he's kind of in the same mold as Admiral - to me. In the current state of our roster, a guy like Admiral can contribute. When you get the roster where it needs to be, those guys are the 9th or 10th players in the rotation.
DeJuan Blair weighed 260 pounds and was a top 40 composite prospect in the country.
He was recruited by schools like Pitt, Florida, Indiana, Marquette, Wake, Tennessee (in the middle of year, 3 sweet 16, 1 Elite 8, NCAA run.
They are both short post guys, but the comparison of high school careers isn't close right now.
