'16 NC QB Austin Kendall (former UT commit)

I really don't understand these know-it-all recruiting "experts" calling the coaching staff liars. These name callers know nothing about this staff and have never been recruited by them so all they can do is run their booger suckers. Being the nice guy that I am I won't respond to these types but I will comment on what has been replied to.
This is JMO FWIW USAC NASCAR OPEC, etc.

If this kid decommits, I would expect the Odin kid to commit pretty soon thereafter. Jmo

Maybe but I think everyone would like to see Oden in their camps first before making that move official. JG would become primary target #1 if he isn't already. I can't tell who they like better JG or Kendall.

Now I like JG, but Oden has a lot of upside as well. He's a huge kid and he has all the tools to run our offense. I would be perfectly fine with any of the 3 though!

From what I've read, Kendall's concern is what the impact of the DeBord hire will have on the offense and how will he fit into the "new" offense. When he visits and sits down with DeBord, he will be back in the fold. All of these other schools are talking nonsense and putting doubts in his mind trying to lure him away from the Vols. Won't work. He's #1 on our QB board.

You're as bad a liar as Butch is! Booooooo! Go back to Va where you belong!!!

J/k
I think you are probably right. A sit down with the new OC and any concerns are assuaged and it is all good in the hood.

Oden is a very tall kid, but he's absolutely rail thin. Saw him about 6 weeks ago. He needs to put on about 40 lbs. and I don't know if he has the frame to comfortably do it. On the other hand, he is a very talented athlete. I know him from watching him play basketball for the last 7-8 years.

Issue is Butch might not exactly know what Kendall is gonna do. Other way around, Kendall isn't sure what Butch is gonna do. Butch was recruiting other guys as a safety net for Kendall maybe, but Kendal saw that as a problem with playing time and to many guys. Now you're in kinda a limbo where Kendall isn't really sure how many QBs UT can/will take other than him, and Butch has to balance recruiting other players, and keeping a great recruit happy.

All speculation. Butch knows best and it will all work out for the Vols.

i think someone said it perfectly on the last page. Kendall just needs some face time with the coaches and this thing gets settled down and explained and we are all good here. Kendall stays committed Butch continues talking to other players etc.

I think the situation is completely normal and there is no reason to be critical of anyone's ethics here.

AK committed at a time he believed we would be taking two QB'S in the '15 class. Circumstances changed and we took three, for good reason.

Then his primary recruiter and UT's OC left. Butch has continued to recruit, as he should. All of that has given the kid something to think about, also completely understandable. He has started to take visits so he can gather information on other programs while deciding how settled he feels with DeBord and his path at UT.

Once he gets back to campus and sits down with the coaches, he'll have a clearer picture. In the meantime, Butch keeps selling the program to the best student athletes as we expect him to.

No reason to call Butch a liar or question Kendall's stones, imo.

Makes sense, but NOW what the hell are we going to argue about? :)

Makes sense, but NOW what the hell are we going to argue about? :)

How about this? This is an article on Stanford's recruiting methods. In my opinion what Shaw articulates gets to the heart of what is actually up for debate here, if we weren't distracted by one poster's self-righteous, black and white world view.

"David Shaw owns a 42-12 record as the head coach of the Stanford Cardinal.*It isn’t easy to win football games on “The Farm” because of the school’s stringent academic standards.

In the five recruiting classes Shaw and his staff cobbled together, only one of them were considered a Top 10 class, according to Rivals.com.

Shaw’s approach to recruiting is very different from other schools, though. He places a much higher priority on loyalty and development than blanketing the country with offers.

“This is not meant to offend anybody, but I’m sure it will. I want the Stanford offers to be real,” Shaw told the Cardinal Sports Report’s Andy Drukarev. “I want them to hold weight. We give an offer to a kid, it’s an offer. It’s a real offer. There’s no time expiration on it. We’re not dangling it between you and three other guys (saying), ‘Hey, first one to jump gets it.’ We just don’t operate that way.

“We are slow and methodical. And some recruits and some parents don’t understand that. Because there have been guys, there are guys on our team right now, that we didn’t offer early, that we offered late, and it was a hurdle for us to get over. And what I typically say is, ‘I’m not going to offer you a scholarship until I know that I have that scholarship for you. Now, if somebody offered you three months before and you want to hold that against us? OK, that’s fine. But is that going to be a decision-maker for you?’

“Does it matter that you meet your wife a month later than you thought you should have? It doesn’t matter. Half this recruiting stuff is crap. It’s all crap. It’s all flashing lights, it’s all emotion. When it comes down to it…here’s what Stanford has to offer. Does it fit what you’re looking for? We cut through all the other stuff. Other people can talk, and that’s great. And some people out there are great recruiters. They’re a great recruiter at one school, become a great recruiter at another school. I have no problem with that.”

As every step of the recruiting process becomes more publicized due to social media, examples of recruits being showered with hundreds of recruiting letters and dozens of offers have become common place.

Stanford will never take that approach.

“So just because we want to be great in football, I don’t want it to be like we’re Johnny Appleseed throwing offers around,” Shaw said. “We offer, it’s backed because you have academics, you have high character, you are a good football player, we have a spot for you that we will wait for you to make your decision. That spot is yours, and it’s real. I understand nobody else operates that way, and I’m fine with that.”
