'16 NC QB Austin Kendall (former UT commit)

I was thinking more towards Crompton. Like I've heard this story before...

I followed recruiting back in the Shuler days via Sporting News and preseason guides...I don't recall the star system being a presence. You had blue collar recruits and the rest. You would see the recruits listed from 1-200 in the back of your Lindy's and Athlons...some would do the same for position groups...don't know how the Nationdom's of the day dealt.

Potential 5* QB from NC...anyone else getting deja vu?

Heath Shuler has to be who he's talking about. Kendall's game is similar to Heath's and nothing like Crompton's was.

Plus Crompton was never a 5 * or really that close to it. Shuler was though. He ended up being the #2 QB in his class.

The NRA, which became Rivals didn't have a star system then but they still had the same ratings that Rivals still uses today. (6.1, 6.0, etc..)

Crompton was a 5* on Scout.

Wow LOL Obviously I've never paid attention to Scout, as I had no clue he was rated that high by them. He was a solid Top 100 guy on the other sites, but not anywhere near 5-star status that I can recall.

I still think the OP was referring to Heath when you look at Kendall's game and how both are/were rated out of HS.

Number 60. That's pretty near 5-star status IMO.

Okay. I guess we have a different viewpoint on what near 5-star status is then LOL. No big deal really, but when I think of near 5-star status I think of the next 5, maybe 10 guys who just missed the cut-off. Certainly not someone in the 50-100 range.

Crompton had a great senior year. He was the unfortunate victim of 3 different Offensive Coordinators in his 4 years at UT. Alex Smith was considered a bust because of it and he was in the NFL. Crompton was great his senior year(except for a one or two games) and actually had better numbers than Jake Locker

Indeed, he did.

I edited my original post. I was in fact referencing Crompton, primarily as a joke. Just playing up the fact that our last "can't miss" QB out of NC was a bit of a miss...

Ole Heath definitely struck ya as a "blue collar" kinda player, he was also a "blue chip" prospect :wink2:
