Army All-American has now eliminated a couple of schools

“Ohio State, Auburn right now,” Warrior said.

With a few weeks left before national signing day there looks to be four to possibly five schools in the mix.

“LSU, Bama, Georgia, kind of South Carolina and Tennessee,” he said.

Is he trolling?

I see this list as 3 tiers. There's LSU, Bama, and Georgia, then there's the also-ran USCe, then there's UT.

Read this how you will with the other info. 😉

Read the part where they say he's down to 4 possibly 5 schools. Tells me TN is one of the 4.

No, what I'm saying is I'm pulling a Bruin and inferring that UT is the leader, the other three in consideration, then maybe USCe.

Concerned about what? We just came off a 9-win season, have tons of returning talent and will be the favorite to with the east and a candidate for the playoff. Recruiting does not always correlate with wins, see Butch's stellar recruiting thus far.

When a guy picks Will Muschamp over Butch Jones, that's proof that you can only do so much to convince an 18-year old to come to your school.

To have sustained excellence on the field, we will need sustained excellence in recruiting. Not saying throw in the towel on this class, but the guy has a legitimate concern. These are the battles Butch has to keep winning.

How's Ole Miss in your eyes? They went from a top 5 class to two follow up top 20 and now back to top 5. They have a winning streak against Bama without a streak of great recruiting classes. How you figure? :hmm:

I think the difference with our current class is just that we have way less scholarships to offer kids. We've taken pretty much the absolute maximum the past 2 classes because we needed to. This class may be smaller, but it has more quality than quantity. People are worried about our recruiting this year but forget about the quality we already have on our roster and we are finally starting to restock with quality. I still feel like Butch will close very strong, especially with the Jan. 29th recruiting weekend. Butch knows what he's doing. We need to keep the faith

I don't think the sky is falling here. We signed two massive, very talented classes in a row by selling playing time among other things.

Can Butch offer that this year? Of course not. The heart of the team are currently freshman and sophomores. I'm totally fine with this class being a few GREAT players and then players who will backfill on the roster. Probably a few sleepers.

I would rather focus on the fact that Butch got Guarantano after signing 3 (!) 4 star qb's last year.

It is worth noting that UT is averaging a higher star/number ranking than a lot of teams in front of us. I think we pull a few more high ranking players and finish in, or near, the top ten with a top five to seven average star ranking. In other words, a very, very solid class.

Average Star ranking is a bad indicator. Skill players are usually higher rated and a dime a dozen while special teams players have crappy rankings.

So Ole Miss beating alabama two years in a row correlates to sustained recruiting doesn't matter? The only reason Ole Miss won this year was because they were +5 in turnovers. Also, we have yet to see if they will recede after that monster class is gone.

Clearly not every team thats ever been successful had top notch recruiting year in and year out. But debating that it doesn't help is silly.

The only team that has a top 5 class every year is Bama. The quicker people stop comparing Butch to Saban, the better. It's very unlikely any coach will ever be as good as Saban, it's silly to expect Butch to be.

You made it sound like a down recruiting year was a harbinger of doom...that sounded "silly" to me. And you didn't include "help" in your narrative. Falsely implying that I said sustained recruiting success doesn't "help" is duplicitous on your part. Make your own arguments. :nono:

Never said he had to have top 5 classes every year and never compared him to Saban.

Quote me that part that was a harbinger of doom in your eyes?

People keep talking about our current class like it's already a bust and a lost cause. But we're 8th in Rivals average star ranking, and we have lots of very talented players visiting in Jan. I'm just going to keep saying it right up until signing day, I still think we finish strong. Some of y'all seem to be forgetting that Butch can flat out recruit.

It was right next to where I pooh poohed recruiting success helping. :)

"To have success on the field we need to have sustained EXCELLENCE recruiting. We've had consecutive EXCELLENT classes. Didn't seem like that was a factor to you. When I gave you the example of Ole Miss, a team that had one great class followed by two average classes you seemed to take umbrage...by using the word silly. When you put yourself up so high, the peons below you might misunderstand your edicts. :salute:

Caught up with Nigel Warrior today and his last three visits will be to LSU on Jan. 15, Alabama on Jan. 22. and Tennessee on Jan. 29.

We had a pretty long conversation about where he's at and what he's thinking about. He said Tennessee has helped itself with the stability and winning.

He mentioned he's waiting to see how everything shakes out with the coaching hires and will go from there.

I will have the full story up later today.
