This is such flawed thinking. You can't try to force a position on a kid. If the kid's heart and soul aren't truly into a position switch, he will never end up coming close to fulfilling his potential. You gotta believe and like what you are doing to be great at something. Having a head coach "step in" and put a kid like Hardman on defense is retarded. I hope Richt tries to do something as stupid as this, but i don't think Richt is that dumb, he didn't do it with Mitchell, i don't see him doing it with Mecole.
Mecole is still in the process of figuring out which position he wants to play in college and in the NFL, i think he is still open to the idea of either, and he is still trying to find his way this summer and this fall before he truly decides what position he decides to pursue fully and dedicate himself to.
I hope that Pruitt and Richt keep on trying to sell him on defense, i think that is a major tactical error, i think Mecole is a special talent on offense and he may not have the prototypical 6'4 frame for a WR, but he is so quick, explosive and elusive in the open field plus he is pretty damn strong for his size and he has amazing hands. He is too good to not put the ball in his hands on offense....he is wasted on defense. Teams will not throw to his side much and he will only impact the game in a very indirect way. On offense he can inspire and electrify the team with his ability.
