'16 AZ DE Jonathan Kongbo UT Signee 2/3/16

Per P Fort

Also, Jonathan Kongbo took an unofficial visit to Washington on Saturday and it seems the Huskies are becoming a factor since it is close to home. Tennessee defensive line coach Steve Stripling was in Vancouver Sunday to meet with his family and try and help stem the tide there. Alabama and Oregon visits are expected come January.

I get the feeling this class will be different cause we will have a lot of late commitments. The last two years were relatively uneventful on signing day. Other than Richmond, it's been downright boring.

It'll still be down by Butch standards, but I'd say top 15 is a given.

Before this cycle started, everyone said this year would not be like the previous two. Fewer spots and holding out more for 17 when the instate class will be much better. Not sure why everyone is freaking out when this is what is happening. I will wait and see where we end up. This class has a great QB and RB in it and potential to get some big help still in the secondary.

Why are you so emotional? If you dont like the process stop paying attention to it.

These kids have earned the right to do what they want during this process. It's the only time athletes have a choice.

It has nothing to do with the process. I get it, you're a 17 year old kid whose getting all the attention from different schools and their fanbase. You're getting all this media attention due to your talents in football BUT there's a fine line between enjoying the process and dragging out bull sh*t for too long. If you know where you're going, then commit and be done with it. So what if they only get this once in a lifetime? Once you're already enrolled into a school, coaches don't give a sh*t on how you handled the recruiting process. You can enjoy the recruiting process without making yourself look like an attention whore all over social media.

Where's Stovol? He had an utter meltdown when we pulled the offer from Marshall. This is hardly any different. It's why recruiting is a business and taking offers/commitments personally is pointless. The players can change their minds, so why should schools/coaches not be able to as well?

Im right here bud, the thing that makes a tennessean different is that we dont NEED to give out scolly's so early, we dont need to stoop to any level of an Alabama because it is not required, and i dont equate the decisions of grown men with that of 17 year olds, along with believing in the mantra of two wrongs dont make a right

i see many justifying in their own minds that if a recruit can back out of a commitment then it is ok for us to burn recruits and the bridges with those high school coaches, well i dont subscribe to that, it's ok if any of you do... i hope you would at least respect my position on it, you don't need to lie or deceive to win, and you sure as hell dont need to look to 17 year olds for justifications for your choices

Liked for liking of proper use of moran in the recruiting forum. Anyways...good to see Strip was out to babysit today. This dudes recruitment is evidently going to be a titanic struggle. One thing I am sure of...these guys will not be outworked...IF...we have a less than stellar class this year, it will not be because Butch and company didn't do their best. In my opinion NOBODY could do any better at this job.

I haven't looked at everything stated but it has been said that some of these offers come with conditions. The kids know the conditions. I just find it difficult to criticize coaches for this when they are under severe pressure to win. If they don't win, they lose their jobs. You really can't expect them not to play the game and still win. Almost every successful program does it.

Why are these prospects jumpimg off the ship all of a sudden?? I am so confused.

My biggest question, why in the hell commit to us if you wasn't for sure already? Why in the hell waste Butch Jone's and his staff time? That's what I'm wondering.

Gotta disagree here Sto. Waiting to fill up the recruiting classes towards the end of the cycle is what cooked Fulmer's goose.

Saban started the early recruiting cycle @ LSU. He was usually done with the current class and building the next one while CPF and staff were working on the current class all the way to signing day.

This was a game changer and Phil never adjusted. Butch is doing what is necessary to rebuild the roster and program.

Just my 2 cents

I guess the commitments were never very strong to begin with, clearly. Regardless, this has been a very strange recruiting cycle. One thing I do find a bit ironic is how this class is so average in the presence of a successful year of football. Tennessee's stock is as high as ever under Butch Jones and it seems this class has lost ALL momentum. It is very strange.

Florida's staff has proven they can coach.

New staff at both UGA and SC.

Former UGA coach goes to Miami.

Major assistant changes at Bama and Auburn.

Contrary to everyone's hopes/beliefs, all of this shake-up won't be good for us this recruiting cycle.

I'm guessing they're being reminded of how many guys in our 2 deep are coming back next year and guys are having second thoughts. Highly unlikely more than 1 or 2 guys in this class break the starting lineup next year.

This is a terrible cop-out and just isn't true.

If kids cared as much about this, they wouldn't line up to play for Bama, LSU, USC, etc. every single year.

The best, most competitive kids will find their way on the field regardless. Other kids just don't care if they have to redshirt.

Kids go to Bama and LSU based on a recent history of success with putting guys in the league. We don't have that.....just yet. Thus the fact early playing time isn't as accesible this year as in past years hurts us.

Yep

Jones needs to adjust the sales pitch. The monster year next year we are going to have will help make that transition easier

All those schools have a recent history of winning big and that, in my opinion, is the difference. 2016 is huge for Tennessee

Yep, the sales pitch is going to have to evolve into the "come play for us and you will win championships" pitch if we want to keep raking in top classes.
