Firing Phil was the right thing to do. Botching the new hires doesn't change the fact that he got complacent and let the game pass him by. There was a reason why other schools didn't get into a bidding war when we let him go..
2001 lsu but that's ok... have forgiven
At the time we didnt know, but Saban was their headcoach. It all makes sense now why we lost.I was there and that was an incredibly poor second half by the Vols. National Championship game would've probably been next for us.
LSU starting QB and RB knocked out of the game and we get beat??
It happens.
I ripped the Power T off the back of my rig swearing not to follow UT again until Phil was gone. I was a spoiled child not understanding of the ebbs and flows of the game.
Patience was not a virtue bestowed upon my football youth. 20/20 hindsight and patience renewed I see his hastened departure as a mistake.
I'm not sure he really wanted to coach after that let down.
Kiffin was forced to start 2 walk-on 245 lb senior OL (Sullins bros) and a true freshman walk-on at DT (Ayers) who ended up as a TE that got zero game-time under Dooley. That's all you need to know about Fulmer's last few years of recruiting.
