It made sense to let Phil go in 2008 but does anyone have a doubt that we would be a lot better today if we had just ridden it out?

He definitely deserved to have been treated better than he was. Hamilton started the **** show that is now UT athletics.... damn him!

Firing Phil was the right call. Botching the new hires doesn't change the fact that he got complacent and let the game pass him by. There was a reason why other schools didn't get into a bidding war when we let him go..

Fulmer had lost it in recruiting. He was kind of the old man of the SEC at the time. He was losing to Vandie, etc.

The time had past Fulmer by. Let's not have convenient amnesia about his last few years. It was awful and you can almost argue that Fulmer started this mess.

But I will blame Hamilton no doubt. The way he did Fulmer was ****ty. I do think UT needed change. Fulmer had made some awful, awful staff decisions.

Hamilton is to blame for the whole Kiffin and Dooley debacle though....

Hamilton's biggest screw up was having Kiffin at the top of his list. Imagine where we'd be if he had brought in Patterson. .

"Yes. I regret we did not fire him after the loss to Vandy in 2005."

you are both wrong and people like you are why we have been in a funk for the last 10 years

Looking back he may have deserved another year to see if he could right the ship..... maybe we could have avoided the Kiffin fiasco

Game passed him by? Run the ball, and play great defense. I think this is still what everyone wants to do.

You're out of your mind if you think nobody called him! He is a Tennessee boy. Spent his entire life here. His heart wouldn't let him go anywhere else!

2001 lsu but that's ok... have forgiven

I was there and that was an incredibly poor second half by the Vols. National Championship game would've probably been next for us.

LSU starting QB and RB knocked out of the game and we get beat??

It happens.

I ripped the Power T off the back of my rig swearing not to follow UT again until Phil was gone. I was a spoiled child not understanding of the ebbs and flows of the game.

Patience was not a virtue bestowed upon my football youth. 20/20 hindsight and patience renewed I see his hastened departure as a mistake.

I'm not sure he really wanted to coach after that let down.

Kiffin was forced to start 2 walk-on 245 lb senior OL (Sullins bros) and a true freshman walk-on at DT (Ayers) who ended up as a TE that got zero game-time under Dooley. That's all you need to know about Fulmer's last few years of recruiting. And his hires were horrendous.

At the time we didn’t know, but Saban was their headcoach. It all makes sense now why we lost.
