To be fair, his basketball resume is pretty forgettable.

Ramar Smith was a sketchy guy, but he was a very good freshman pg at TN. As a freshman he averaged 10.7 ooh, 3.1 apg and 3.3 rpg. Shot 44 pct fgs and 66 pct fts. Was a unanimous all-SEC freshman and freshman of the week twice. On top of that, he was a ferocious defender, one of the best defensive PG's I've seen in Knoxville.

As a comparison, CJ Watson averaged 9.1 ppg, 5.5 apg (excellent), 4.2 rpg. Shot 43 pct fgs and 65 pct fts.

If Ramar could have kept his personal life between the lines, he'd have been a superb college pg.

Poor wording on my part. I meant his career was pretty forgettable because of his issues, which even hampered his play as a sophomore.

As a FR, I agree, he was pretty legit on the court.

It makes me sick to think what Duke & Ramar could have been if they could kept out of trouble...

Yep. I still have the Texas game from their freshman year on a DVR - the one where Lofton hit the 35 footer over Durant. Just watching how that Tennessee team matched up with a very good Texas team was amazing. With Ramar and Duke on the floor, along with with the rest of the roster, there weren't many teams in the country who could "out athlete" Tennessee.

BEST PG IN AMERICA

I am not afraid to say it now and boldly I will stand on the statement. For some time now, there has been much discussion over who was and is the best point guard in the 2015 crop of lead guards. Many names have been thrown around and it seems that by the day, each kid falls off the top spot on the totem pole. With Jawun Evans, the Greenville, South Carolina native, this weekend’s play, to go along with his steady contributions throughout the spring months, has cemented himself as the best that there is. He is super-fast with the basketball and holds the keys to the car with every game. In battles against Corey Sanders and Derryck Thornton on Thursday, Evans seemed to have taken things personal where he went right at his opposing counterpart and obliterated the first line of defense off the bounce and whether it was hitting on downhill, jaw-dropping tear drop floaters, passing to others on drive and dish looks, or stepping back and hitting the 3 off the high ball screen, the steady assassin got it done. Following his evening session, Evans didn’t seem to budge on his final list of eight schools, yet he seems driven to continue to gain further respect as he competes on the hardwood; trust me though, he has it and a bag of chips from the HoopsIntel group!

meyer is also at the event, and mentioned that tyndall and ut assistant coach adam howard had been in the stands for all of evans' games. Evans, a 6-foot, 165-pounder from kimball high in dallas, is a four-star prospect in the 247sports composite but meyer has him as a five-star and one of the top 20 players in the nation. Evans listed tennessee first on thursday when meyer asked which schools he was considering. Meyer said evans is definitely has the skills to be an nba player.

Probably top 5 TN game that I have seen in my lifetime. Ramar, Crews, and Chism were awesome. TBA was incredible. You can find the entire game on youtube. I've watched it several times.

Lofton hit 3 - 3 pointers over Durant.

Yup. That whole game almost seemed too good to be true. I kept waiting for Texas to make a run and cut it to a 5 point, or less, lead. All of a sudden we were still up 20 and the starters for both teams were being pulled. Greatness.

Think you have your years confused. The year KD played was in Knoxville and was very close. Went to OT iirc.

Yup, you're right. Both great games, but I was thinking of Pearl's first year when Texas had Aldridge and Boobie Gibson. We smacked them around for 40 minutes straight.
