'15 TN OT Drew Richmond (Former Ole Miss commit)

Here's my 2 cents on Richmond. It's obvious he likes Tennessee, 3 weekends in a row to see us play on his own dime says a lot. He knows he is needed and wanted here, and has a good amount of friends here. Ole Miss also wants him and needs him though to a lesser degree than we do, it's closer and his mom's choice. Though us losing does magnify our need for him, us continuing to lose will push him away imo. Obviously these kids read the message boards and while I doubt a few posters opinions won't dissuade him, he no doubt feels that if we keep losing the Butch will be on the hot seat eventually, specially with all these fair weather fans that make the football forum unbearable. I feel the decision will come down to who he feels like will still be the coach for his entire collegiate career, he probably doesn't want to be here for 2 yrs and then his coach get let go. I for one think Butch is doing an awesome job and is just having to deal with horrible attrition and bare cupboards that were left behind. Not to mention year in and year out one of the hardest schedules in college football. Again just my opinion.

In all fairness, I don't think anybody who's a Vol fan right now could ever be called fair weather or bandwagon fan. We haven't seen "fair weather" in years.

3 weekends in a row?

Did I miss something? He has been here once? Last week he was in Oxford.

Almost off-topic, but are we looking at any JUCO tackles? Are JUCO tackles even a quick fix like they are at other positions?

True.. guess I'm wondering is it normal for JUCO OTs to disappoint?

In our situation we are playing 2 guards at tackle so I don't see how it could be any worse. Some think that Blair came in out of shape so instead to sitting him 6 games their just Redshirting him.

I think Gillum might come back this week.

Please enlighten us....

I wish I could I know that was my 2nd post ever so I should have no real trust but I'm a sophomore here at UTK and I'm from Memphis. I would say 40-60 them on the chances. BTW I will say this Ole Miss is a VERY DIRTY program they will only get away with what they're doing for so long. I will give y'all the updates I can and continue as the recruitment moves forward.

IIRC I saw a stat that none of the JUCO tackles that were signed by SEC teams were starting so, yes it looks like it is normal for JUCO OTs to not contribute. At least in their first year.

Of course, Blair is the only one not starting as a result of either poor evaluation and/or failing to be coached up...

Per Fortenberry, Drew will be at Ole Miss next Saturday to watch the Rebels take on the Vols. Drew will be back in Knoxville for the Bama game.

Drew will take 2 other OVs: Alabama-LSU game, tOSU-Michigan game

He'll take an OV to UT some time in January.

"Just from our conversation, I think he still has a lot of interest in Tennessee and even though I think it's an uphill climb for Tennessee I think it's far from over."

-Fortenberry

Get him to OV on one of those Basketvol weekends. Those always seem to be great visits

2 things here:
1. Anyone who thinks this recruitment is over is wrong we have a great shot
2. Drew and 95% of other recruits actually do NOT read message boards however, I would say 25% of players parents do. It's not as common as one would think.
(I'm no insider but a lot of my friends play D1 sports so I know how the recruiting process works)

Not sure how many other Vol students post on here but I thought y'all would enjoy seeing perspective from someone who is closer to the recruits age.

While I do somewhat agree with you, there are still a lot of other factors.

There were a few guys when I was in high school that were recruited by D1 schools and everyone who was a sports fan read all of the message boards. Even though the recruits or the parents of the recruits might not read them, information can still very easily make its way back to the recruit- especially with how big social media is now. We didn't have that.

So McKenzie could flip to Bama?

Move on people.

KM is a UT legacy commit. DR is not an Ole Miss legacy commit . Not saying DR will decommit, only that the situation is not the same. I sdo understand your overall point though that a lot of kids are fair game until NSD.

This one one boils down to who is ultimately going to make the commitment. Drew, who I think favors TN, or Drew's momma, who favors Ole Miss.

I think its interesting to note Drew is traveling on his own dime, 3 weeks in a row and two of those weeks to Knoxville. Not just bc he is coming to watch us, but that his parents are traveling to Knoxville two out of three weeks. That at least eliminates the family not being able to afford or otherwise make the trip to Knox as a hurdle. They may be seeing how well they can deal with the travel to Knoxville 7 games a year, one can hope. The stories of Drew and his dad both really liking UT are, IMO, backed up by them coming here two out of three weeks. May be fabricating to give myself some hope, but you never know, there may be something to it.

Maybe he is licking his chops watching the current OL play. I think it is obvious where this team would be except for the weak link for this year. A player like Richmond and maybe one more would be a real difference maker and not just one of many.

definitely that's 100% correct
