'15 TN DE Kyle Phillips (UT commit 1/3/15)

Phillips is an athletic edge rusher who also plays contain very well, doesn't false step often or overcommit and is good against the pass and the run. He came unblocked a few times in the Army Bowl and other times he made people look foolish. He's not the longest end, he's not the fastest end, but he's one of the most consistent and effective by far. -- Farrell

For those who saw Phillips' Army Bowl game, the move to five-stars is not surprising. But, Phillips played that way throughout the week of Army Bowl practices. He is the total package at defensive end, having the ability to play the run and rush the passer. -- Helmholdt

Just checked the team rankings on Rivals and noticed that we are still 6th. It shows Philips as 5* as it should but yet we haven't jumped Georgia which we weren't far behind them. Now each team would have 3 5* but it still shows us with 2 5* so I'm gonna assume that those will be updated as well. Will we jump UGA when updated?

Been out of the loop so sorry if it's already been asked/answered, but why is Clemson ranked ahead of Tennessee in the rankings? Seems like they both have 3 5 stars and Tennessee has more 4 stars. Better average star as well

There are "different levels" of 4* is the best explanation. A 6.0 4* is going to get more points than a 5.8 4*. This is how Clemson is ahead of us.

Lol, I was joking about Rivals not even being able to math this morning. :eek:lol:

I think the blurb yesterday was a prospect moving 140 spots.

5 star on 247
4 star on composite - rated # 37 overall. He's like .001 points away from being a 5 star on the composite.

Yeah 1 spot away from 5 star composite. I believe everyone's rankings are done so I guess ESPN is who kept him from being a 5 star. I am sure it's because he didn't attend their All Star game. i don't even think they bothered to send anyone to scout the Army game which tells you all you need to know about their setup.

As said already they have 7 highly ranked 4*(5.9/6.0) recruits and we only have 4. Our class is pretty awesome and our DL class is probably one of the best in the country.

IMO we are about to see what it's like having Myles Garrett and Barnett on the same team in Kyles Soph year. phillips looks a lot like Garrett with those long azz arms and quick first step dominating the Army game. Garrett was well built weight room wise though so Phillips has some catching up to do there.
