'15 TN DE Kyle Phillips (UT commit 1/3/15)

The mid to late 90's teams had multiple TN kids in prominent roles. Al Wilson, Clifton, Riley, Westmoreland, Copeland, Cedrick Wilson, Stephens, Hall, Lott, Finlayson, Gaines, Fitzgerald, Scott Galyon etc.

We have plenty of in-staters on the roster now that are or will play prominent roles. A huge % of them were brought in by Butch too.

2015 SRs - Kerbyson, Crowder
2015 Jrs - JRM, Josh Smith, Malik Foreman,
2015 Sos - Kendrick, Sanders, Mosely, Robertson, Sawyers, Hurd, Malone, Wharton, Kelly Jr., Medley, Barnett, Gaulden
2015 Freshman - Bruce, Jennings, Jones, Perry, Stewart and possibly Oliver.

and just as many from out of state. Everytime I think Im out...they drag me back in.

Yes dude you're right, just as many out of state kids, because no university lands 25 in-state guys every year. Very few states produce that level of talent and very few can fight off ALL the competiton. But you also CANNOT go out and just grab 15 guys from other states to replace their contributions. Our recruiting efforts and resources have to start at home first.

I was pointing out that his premise that we predominantly recruited nationally in the 90's due to poor in state talent was flawed. Then and now, some of our biggest contributors, and a fair number of them, have come from in state.

yes you are right, I give. Lets all go Kermit everytime a kid leaves the state.

Let's all act like middle TN, as it stands today, is not one of our two most important recruiting ponds.

Are you not aware of all the flack fans gave Dooley and Fulmer in his later years for their lack of priority in state. Could we not have benefitted from the likes of Harrison Smith, Golden Tate, Hightower, Von Bell etc.

I wonder what the momma's think of team GPA? Could that be used in recruiting? We are also tied for tenth in active players on NFL rosters. Tennessee has also had the most draft picks to the NFL in the SEC of all time.

Momma also got a front row seat to the UT coach fest, 4 players choose to leave, 2 rape scandals. As a mom and AD those things might have played a role.

To be perfectly fair, I'd rather have a coach that punishes thuggery (Jones) than one that rewards it (multiple choice).

I think the thing with AJ/Williams was played exactly right. Same with Paulk based on my limited understanding.

I've argued with folks here about the departures but the only one that really stings is Hendrix. Grade issues happen. Guys like Scott don't see themselves becoming a factor.

LSU has had their own issues.

Don't forget Swafford...

Another thing to consider is recruiting is extremely dirty. If a kid in Alabama that's coveted by Bama and he chooses another school, a lot of time the parents are threatened to lose their jobs. Other underhanded tactics occur. It happens all over the place. I don't think Tennesseeans stoop to that level.

Well I trust your opinion. I can see where kids choose other schools but when three or four end up at one school, especially given that Buck's former coach is the D coordinator and they are all highly recruited by the instate school, right or wrong it's going to raise eyebrows. That's all I'm saying.

I understand that but if everyone understood that relationship they would laugh their tail off.

We are all Morans. It is the RF way on VN. Guys get with the program. Morans not Morons!

Can't imagine it would be that funny. But blaming corner/Buck for a couple of instate kids going elsewhere is unfounded and ridiculous.

Miller leaving exacerbates the DE issue.

Not sure what's going on with DE signees... but the attrition is very bad.

Marginal player taken in the 2013 class. Payne and Miller leaving allows us to sign 25 players in the 2015 class. There will need to be more attrition if we are going to sign anymore guys.

So why want to down play the ones from TN? It's a great thing that we have WAY more instate talent than back in the 90's. It will be much easier now.

Ok, I'm done

This is such BS imo...huge exaggeration - we had plenty of in-state talent in the 90s - and we usually got the ones we wanted

Al Wilson, John Henderson, Kevin Mays, Chad Clifton, Travis Stephens, Cedric Wilson, Mose Phillips, George Kidd, Reggie Ingram, Jason Layman, Jeff Smith, Bubba Miller, Eric Westmoreland, Eric Still, Steve White

There are a lot more names that could be added to this list - Tennessee had talent in the 90s

We were Phillips first offer. We have recruited him as hard as anyone. He just isn't that high on Tennessee. What else can Butch and company do?

85 number has never been a problem. Likely be 5 or so other players leave after the bowl. Only going to take about 27 in the 2015 class and there is plenty of room for that.

You've missed the whole debate if you think I've said anything about the staff and what more they could've done. The crux of the debate has nothing to do with that. I'm not going to rehash it. You can go back and read for yourself.
