'15 TN DE Kyle Phillips (UT commit 1/3/15)

Not to mention they are instate guys. Always hurts to lose instate guys. especially perception wise.

We would lose two instate guys, but also gain two as well; both higher ranked as well. From a novice perspective, it will look as if we closed on some higher-rated guys and let the lesser guys walk. That is how Butch will spin the perception. Close out the most talented guys in your state.

I can agree with that.

But Jackson is a local kid being from Maryville and they are a team with some really good players in the 2017 and 2018 class.

That doesn't really say much to me. But I think it is common sense that we are trending REALLY well right now with the following

RB - Bryce Love
OL - Pat Allen
DL - Kyle Phillips
LB - Darin Kirkland
CB - Ugo Amadi and Justin Martin

I think we add those 6.

The following are all trending the other direction

RB - Rocky Reid
TE - Kyle Oliver
DL - Dylan Jackson
LB - Cecil Cherry
CB - Darrell Miller

This puzzle isn't too complicated right now.

I'd take that; however, if we could add anyone else I'd like to see Vaughn or Walker added, and/or Jackson/Oliver kept.

This would be absolutely fine if it were to go that way.

Where are Miller and Oliver "trending" towards?

Could have sworn I just saw Miller on twitter say he was completely committed to UT and couldn't wait to get here.

Maryville had been great for years

Serious question, because I'm not sure... When was the last time a Maryville player made noise in the SEC? Robinette doesn't count

fair trade offs imo. The two guys off that list I would really hate to see go are Jackson and Oliver.

I think both have big time upside.
Jackson is the one I'd really hate to see get away. I think he will be a phenom wherever he lines up (DE/OT/TE). As for Oliver....haven't seen an updated reel, but I watched the matchup between Blackman and his team, Oakland, early in the season, on ESPN. He was rarely targeted, and thus a non-factor in that game. That was pretty disappointing. But he did make a BIG play to seal the win over Blackman in their rematch, last week (quarterfinals?), I believe it was.

Tyler Robinson started for UK at TE from 2010-13 & had 30 recs for 255 yds and 3 TDs. Not huge numbers by any means. Aaron Douglas played and was a freshman All-American at Tennessee in 2009.

There was RB Carl Stewart who went to Auburn ('03-'06). I remember the reasoning he gave for picking Auburn over Tennessee was because Tenn was stacked with backs (Houston, Davis and Riggs) but he chose a place with Cadillac Williams and Ronnie Brown and Stewart wound up playing FB anyway? Strange but that's been Tennessee's luck with the Blount County kids.

I would rather have Newsome.

I would lean toward Van. Newsome is good but not something we dont already have on the roster or committed. Van is one of the more polished receivers in this class. He runs great routes and maybe some of the best hands as well. We need a guy like that who can move the chains and someone the QBs are confident in.

to be fair, Newsome would be the new Pig Howard.
