'15 TN DE Kyle Phillips (UT commit 1/3/15)

Soooo... I say Tuttle is in the bag and I have wanted Phillips since this seasons recruiting started so do we have a real shot at him? Are we leading, anyone know? I saw him at the Utah state game he seemed to be enjoying himself but nothing to be a indicator that he really wants to be a vol??? Anyone have any idea?

He's in wait and see mode. Waiting to see us put a good defensive product on the field. Can't blame him. LSU may be a slight leader but who knows.

He doesn't know himself so a long way to go in this one. Prob a NSD kid. He mainly is looking to see if we make a bowl

If UT doesn't win 7 games (regular season) they aren't getting Phillips. And it's still a challenge even if they do. Don't like it? Get over it. The kid has made it clear that he wants to see marked improvement in the record.

If mom's a Vandy fan, I don't like our chances unless she wants him to play close to home.

From what i have heard She doesn't care as long as he is happy. She understands he has a better future than Vandy offers in football. If Franklin was still at Vandy then that would be something to worry about. She prob prefers TN out of the other choices since its closer.

His mother is a Vandy alum, played basketball there. He already eliminated Vandy from consideration before the grease fire that is the Derek Mason era began. Don't think Vandy is a concern at all. LSU is a concern IMO.

I really hope UMASS can help out a toss some water on that fire tomorrow! :pilot:

LSU is THE concern right now. I'm hoping we can sway him our way though, I expect Butch to finish strong as he will have only a few recruits to focus heavily on going up to NSD.

The issue is we won't beg him to come here. I'm sure CBJ wants him. I want him, and I've been a huge advocate of pursing him, even though some feel he's a touch overrated. I strongly disagree. Problem is, we simply have bigger needs. In this order is our needs IMO, DT/OT/CB/OLB/DE. We have addressed the DT spot, especially if we land Shy :crossfingers:, and OT won't be addressed any further unless we can land a meaningful prospect, which isn't looking great at the moment. When you look at the collection of players our staff has brought in the last 2.5 years, counting the 2015 recruiting class, DE has been a real strong point for us. We landed Carr, but it didn't work out, s*** happens. J. Miller seams to be on the cusp of getting into the rotation. Hendrix and Barnett are studs. Henderson will be a great pass rusher one day, and he's one of my favorite CBJ recruits so far. Jackson, Butcher, and Ford are already committed to us, and unless we are for certain Jackson won't play SDE here, which IMO is his best fit, then numbers wise we don't need many more DEs because Vereen, Maggit, and L. Lewis still have to be added to the entire equation. Recruits need to start understanding that Dooley the Fooley isn't here any longer. CBJ isn't waiting on you unless you are a can't miss player, such as Richmond or Shy Tuttle. CBJ will take the next guy on their board, and they have the full confidence in themselves that they can one day develop that guy into just as good as player in due time.

I'll also add that Jakob Johnson and Dimarya Mixon will both play some DE here as well. I believe Mixon is a Malik Jackson clone. Jackson is 6-5 293 where Mixon is 6-3 282. Mixon will move to SDE IMO because Sawyers, McKenzie, Picou, Shy Tuttle, O'Brien, and Sauls will lock the DT positions down. That doesn't account for Mosley either if he stays at DT. I think Hendrix and Barnett both posses the quickness to play WDE and the strength to play SDE. Butcher should also be able to play both. Henderson should be a hybrid OLB/DE along with Ford. Jackson will play SDE at around 275 if he isn't moved to the o-line. The point I'm getting at is, not only our we much more deep, versatile, and talented across the board on our DL, we are also very BIG and Fast. That's a recipe for success in the SEC.

I don't like it, and I refuse to get over it!
