'15 TN DE Kyle Phillips (UT commit 1/3/15)

I feel like this is up to Butch. If butch wants him to be part of the class, then Kyle Phillips will be included In the class.

If Butch wants a recruit to be part of the class, then recruit will be part of the class........

Holy sheeyut, I didn't know it worked that way...

As displayed many times already, when you combine Butch's relentlessness on the trail with the sheer wow factor of tennessee football, he is going to do whatever the hell he wants to do. Believe that.

CBJ has missed on recruits he wanted to sign. It's happened, and will continue to happen. As great as UT is, there are a lot of great schools around the country. It's just the way it is.

I honestly believe that UT is better then all of the other "great" schools you referenced. There is just nothin like the Vols, and I've never even been to a game.

Being a lifetime UT fan, my heart agrees.

My unbiased mind tells me that there are many schools that can compete with UT on just about every level on and off the field and I have been to a lot of games.

Upon further reflection maybe I should've used the 'blue font' technique.....

Yep, every coach misses on targets. Even Saban and his sterling staff of recruiters loses kids (with committable offers) to other schools.

• Slow-playing a recruit can sometimes work, depending on the school and situation. However, it does not seem to be working with Tennessee and four-star defensive back Ugo Amadi. The Vols backed off Amadi after he committed to Ole Miss while others remained in pursuit, but now in desperate need of additional defensive backs the coaching staff has been trying to get back into good standing with the Ole Miss commit. To further complicate the matter, four-star defensive end Kyle Phillips and Amadi are believed to be a package deal, with Phillips being a priority for the Vols from the start. So now it looks like both Phillips and Amadi may both end up at either Ole Miss or LSU, while the Vols are currently in third for both according to some sources.

Would be absolutely brutal if we miss on Phillips, Richmond, McGraw, McMillon, & Jefferson.

Seems like there's a very good chance we will too. Sucks. Really kills all of the "own the state" talk Butch was preaching last year.

Really depends on how much the staff actually pushed for each of them. Richmond and Jefferson it seems as though the staff would have taken them no matter what.

Phillips seems to be too concerned with getting his buddies a spot along side him. McGraw has the shady handler, and McMillon does not really fit at LB for UT. Maybe the staff missed and maybe the staff did not like the situation around some of these guys.

McGraw and Jefferson never really wanted to come to UT from the start. McMillon was never really on the radar in terms of UT recruiting (many have referenced scheme). Phillips and Richmond are still very much in play.

^^^I don't know about that quote POA....Backing off a recruit after they commit somewhere else is NOT "slow playing" anybody. That is ridiculous...It may be true but I have not heard that Phillips and Amadi were a package deal before this. I also don't know why we would be "desperate" for db's - at least not more now than we have been from the start of this recruiting cycle. We had a good haul in February after all. This was definitely written from either a pro-Ole Miss perspective or anti-Tennessee.

Yeah, I don't think UT is really hurting for CBs at this point. I remember an article quoting the UT staff saying they wanted (1) lockdown type CB in 2015 and the article said they got that in Miller. They may take a 2nd, but IMO that in no way says they are hurting.
