'15 TN DE Kyle Phillips (UT commit 1/3/15)

that's assuming he actually has inside information. Saying we will not sign 2-3 kids currently committed isn't much better.

Tennessee -*"I still like them a lot. I’m really just looking forward to the season. I know they're not gonna be great because they’re young but I want to see how it might pan out the next few years if I go there because I want to win. I’m looking forward to seeing the upcoming season how they’re going to do."As of yet, Phillips has no firm official visits set. He also has no definitive decision timeline. He does however know that he doesn't want this process to drag on significantly.

"I think I want to do it during the season," he said. "Or maybe after the season but I’m not really certain right now. I don’t know if I’m going to take all five visits. I’m not gong to take all five if I've already made the decision. It might be in two weeks or something if I feel it. I don’t want to wait too late. I don’t want towait till signing day."

So what is going to be the deciding factor for Phillips?

"Really just where I feel like I fit in this best, scheme wise. Where I feel that I can win the most and where I have the most success at. All schools basically have all good facilities and nice stadiums and all that but where do I fit in the most? That’s gonna decide where I go."

Closer Than It Appears For 4-Star Kyle Phillips

Recently, four-star Nashville (Tenn.) Hillsboro defensive end Kyle Phillips named a top five consisting of Alabama, Ole Miss, Tennessee, LSU and TSU. Tennessee has long been considered the favorite to land Phillips and had collected 92 percent of national expert predictions on the 247Sports Crystal Ball. However, the race for Phillips is much closer that it appears and on Friday, I changed my Crystal Ball pick from Tennessee to LSU.

After talking to multiple sources on the subject, LSU likely has a slight edge at this point in the process. One source actually indicated that while LSU leads for now, Alabama could be the team to beat in the long run as Kyle and his mother are both high on the Crimson Tide.

Tennessee is still very much a factor. One thing to keep an eye on this fall is how Tennessee starts out of the gates. A quick start for the Vols could immediately bolster their chances. Conversely a couple of losses early on could push Phillips further in the direction of the SEC West.

Ole Miss is also considered a contender behind the recruiting efforts of Maurice Harris and Chris Kiffin. Among his final five, only TSU can be considered an unlikely destination. At this point in the process though, LSU looks to have the momentum. -Barton Simmons

It's Barton Simmons, so take it with a grain of salt

Doesn't bleed orange. Don't Want.

What really annoys me is when these kids say they want to "see how much improvement Tennessee will show this year," but we need kids like Kyle to jump on board in order to BE better. These players need to stop being followers and take the bull by the horns. Instead of waiting to see how much better Tennessee will be, they need to say "This team needs me. I can help make this team better."

Lol....

"considered to land
"One source actually indicated"
"Considered"

And then the bolded. Multiple sources say LSU has a slight edge, but only one of those said LSU leads? Isn't that the same thing?

LSU or Bama may have the "slight edge" right now, although I'm not sure how true that is, obviously.

At the end of the day, Phillips is not committing any time soon, so I'm not worried. He's a quick drive from Knoxville for the coaches, Thigpen is recruiting him, and he'll be on campus several times between now and when he commits.

These are the recruits that probably would like to see us improve this year for them to jump on board. I don't blame him.

I want to see us improve too. I don't blame anyone for taking a wait and see approach after the dumpster fire of the last 4 years. Luckily I think that time has passed, so I ain't worried.

How true. Last year he didn't have us getting Malone or Barnett and after Franklin left said there was no way Sawyers was going to UT.

I would bet the house on this kid not going to LSU. When it comes down to it, and putting pen to paper.. This Nashville kid isn't headed to Baton Rouge.

Vol lock end the end, IMO. GBO VFL

I don't see how these kids expect a team that is 50% freshmen to drastically improve in a single season.

It's going to be rough. Young guys are going to play early. Why not just join them and make Tennessee better yourselves? Heck, a lot of the kinks will be ironed out before they get here anyway.

Yup! He needs to realize that next year's team (would be his team) is expected to make some big moves

Have you ever seen a highly talented JV team beat a highly talented varsity team in HS? Neither have I. We will be a very good football team in 2-3 years.

I think we will be a great team as well. Although it seems like we have been saying the same thing forever. Just wait until next year, just wait another couple of years. I just want the less than mediocrity play to end.
