'15 TN DE Dylan Jackson (former UT commit)

Jackson and Blair would only overlap for one season while Jackson would be redshirting. Jones could easily move inside. So yes, I could see Jackson competing at OT if he gains weight.

I understand Blair would be gone the year after. Jack may play OG. I also fully expect UT to bring in 2-4 more top OL guys in 2016. Guys who would be closer to ideal OL size, experience in the position and much more likely to come in ready to perform than a kid who had to add 50LBS to even start to get ready to compete and learn the position. I'm not saying Dylan can't or won't make the move, I just think it's a lot less likely than some do. If I were the kid, I would want no part of it early on. His RS SO/JR year he is 280LBS+ and it's an option? Maybe it makes sense.

What are the ideal measurables of an offensive tackle? 6-5+ and over 300 lbs or what? I know wingspan is also a seriously important dimension as well. Could someone clarify?

I'd say he has "potential" to grow into an OL position, but I also think he's coming to Tennessee with every intention of being a DL.

I am not an expert, but these were the measurables of the OT's taken in the 1st round of the NFL Draft:

2. Greg Robinson- 6'5" 332
6. Jake Matthews- 6'5" 308
11. Taylor Lewan- 6'7" 309
16. Zack Martin- 6'4" 308
19. Ja'Wuan James- 6'6" 311

Your measurements seem to be right in line. Based on my uneducated opinion, agility and long arms help make a good OT. Good foot work and balance is key.

Edit: Eric Fisher is 6'7", 306, and the following was a description of him by ESPN last year at the draft:

Fisher has ideal measurables in terms of size, arm length and hand span and the light feet you look for in a left tackle. He plays with excellent balance, does a great job with angles in the run game and has good lateral agility in pass protection. He can continue to get stronger in the lower half and play with more consistent pad level. If he does that, he can develop into a top-tier left tackle at the next level.

Jones will play inside. Blair is a non factor for Jackson at OT. Assuming all of our current guys stay and we get Richmond and Jackson plays OT (which would probably mean no Clark), our 2016 OT roster will look like this:

Coleman Thomas: Jr
Brett Kendick: RS Jr
Drew Richmond: Sophomore or RS Fr
Dylan Jackson: RS Freshman
Maybe one or two true freshmen

At DE, however it could very well be:

Corey Vereen: Sr
Latroy Lewis: RS Sr
Jaylen Miller: RS Jr
Dewayne Hendrix: Jr
Jakob Johnson: Jr
Joe Henderson: Jr
Andrew Butcher: So
Kyle Phillips: So or RS fr

That's assuming Barnett moves inside and we see some attrition.

Jackson is around 240 right now with a great frame and 2 and a half years time until the 2016 season. He could easily bulk up to 290 by his RS fr season and have ideal near ideal size to play OT. Either way, his chances of playing as a RS So is still better at OT than DE.

I'd say his prospects and our need at OT are probably greater than DE.

I tend to agree with you on Jackson. It depends on his growth as well as how recruiting goes too imo. I would love nothing more than to lock down Richmond and another true OT this cycle and wait and see on Jackson though.

Once Clark decided I think we'll have a better idea of how things will work out t OT.

It may help, but I'm not sure if I see Clark as an OT...I think he may end up at OG.

Also part of the problem and a reason I don't see him committing to us.

We have decent depth at guard for the moment. No need to take 3 this cycle, but 2 OTs is a must.
