'15 TN ATH Jauan Jennings (UT commit 4/7/14)

Jauan is raw at quarterback. He still has a whole year left to get it done at quarterback. I was at almost every Blackman game last year and he has a lively arm that you can't teach but he does make bad decisions every now and then. He holds onto the ball too long and scrambles and gets into trouble trying to make something happen then takes a big sack or tries throwing down field usually incomplete. If he can pick up offenses well and make better quicker decisions, he could be great. If he can't, he will be a safety. I'd take him either way.

By the way, 1 of his 3 interceptions against Maryville was a hail mary right before the half. That one doesn't count in my eyes.

My point exactly. He has another full year to get better, then at least 2 once he gets on campus with our QB situation. He is not a sign and play kid. By his redshirt Soph year, he will be ready. That's a full 3.5 years away. That's a lot of time to grow and develop.

So it was his first year as QB this past season? Let's see how he develops next year. Just get him in Orange and figure it out later. He's obviously an athlete.

Not always the best plan with major project type QBs. Not all "athletes" playing QB like the idea of ending up somewhere other than QB. If the staff thinks he can play QB for UT, bring him on. If he is a possible QB in the future, I'd rather they pass. Better to get a QB than to lose a kid to transfer a year down the line when he can't cut it and does not want to change positions.

My son goes to school with Jennings and has asked him about coming to UT. My boy wears something UT every day and is friends with Jaylan Miller.Jauan has said he wants to play QB and that he likes coach Jones and the coaches are saying he's better at safety.

I watched every game this year Jennings is an elite runner very athletic more mobile then any QB I've seen at UT in awhile. As far a throwing he's raw makes some bad throws but has a strong arm. I think he needs the rite coach to be a starter in this league.

I do know that UT would accept a commitment from him right now. Can't speak for the rest of the schools. And if you think there is any similarity in the situations between Jauan and Matt you are the one that needs objectivity lessons.

Their situations are not similar. However, I hold firm to the fact that schools love Jennings athleticism and potential at QB but are still evaluating him through camps this summer and his senior season before they offer him as purely a QB. Now, as an athlete I think he has many commiattable offers. If he calls and tells those teams he refuses to play anything but QB and tries to commit they will either a.) not take it or b.) lie to him and take it with every intention of changing his position if he does not progress at QB substantially his senior season.

There is really no need to continue with a debate over this. It is a wait and see situation. I think everyone on here, myself included, hope he progresses at QB and realizes his potential. And does so at UT!

Choice b) in your post is basically the nuts and bolts of the recruiting process. What nobody knows out of all of these schools that are recruiting him as a QB is what you are referencing. With coaches like Urban recruiting him, you never know the intentions of these guys are. It's the seedy side of the process....just telling kids what they want/need to hear just to get the signature. Right now, to get Jauan's attention, schools are recruiting him as a QB. We, as fans (and sadly even some of the recruits themselves), don't know individual coach's intentions.

100% agree with your 2nd paragraph!!

Offense or defense? If it's up to Jauan Jennings, he's got the football in his hands.

Jennings is a Scout four-star prospect in the 2015 class — as a safety. The Blackman (Tenn.) High School standout has potential to operate on either side of the ball.

The 6-foot-3, 190-pounder owns offers from the likes of Auburn, Duke, Georgia Tech, Mississippi State, Nebraska, Ole Miss, Tennessee and Vanderbilt.

Rarely leaving the field, Jennings held down both quarterback and safety for the Blaze in leading them to the TSSAA Class 6A state semifinals before falling to eventual champion Maryville.

Great points. UT needs to be very precise as they remake this roster. Don't have the luxury to take even calculated chances.
