'15 TN ATH Jauan Jennings (UT commit 4/7/14)

We are going to land Gentry, IMO. I wouldn't mind giving this guy an athlete, 2nd QB in the class pitch.

Did I miss something in Gentry. You're the third person that seemed to think we lead for him and that he would be a big take for us. What about the 5-star out of FLA?

I think the staff has picked out a group of top tier QBs they would ideally like to have and IMO they would be smart to take a commitment from the 1st one who wants to be a part of the 2015 class. Don't sit back with all your cards on the top guy and then get Cornwelled again. Then your left trying to steal ncstates QB late in the process. JMO

I don't disagree...but what makes people so confident in Gentry

I think Coach Jake has visited Gentry 3 or 4 times in the past 2 months. Butch was even there for a visit. The kid lives in New Mexico, so it's not like we are driving over the border to Kentucky to look at him. We are flying, basically across the country for this kid.

VQ has reported Gentry showing mutual interest in us as well. I think the coaches are set to have 1 more visit with him this week. And supposedly Gentry will visit for the O&W game.

Need to get that commit of ours that hated his tOSU visit to go ahead and share his opinions of the OSU staff with Jennings.

Urbz is selling him on being the next Braxton Miller lol

Wonder what Jauan will think when Lorenzo Nunez commits to tOSU?

Hopefully, JJ is smart enough to see through that.

Jennings just isn't a Major D-1 QB, and the quicker he realizes that will benefit him...and UT.

Hubbs on 104.5 said UT is only recruiting him as an athlete. Too many questions at QB

That's not entirely what he said. He said "he", as in Hubbs, views him as an athlete, and that the staff was evaluating him.

We'll land Jennings as long as he doesn't get a QB offer from a big school.

I don't know that I have the energy to re-hash this. He has QB offers from "big" schools...if you consider UT and tOSU "big" schools, just to name a couple. I will repeat...UT is recruiting him as a QB. What their ultimate intentions are with him, nobody knows, but we are recruiting him as a QB.

If we take 2 he will probably be the lower rated of the 2. If we take one, and he is it, then we have obviously missed on our top guys. He is a project, but as has been stated before, he wouldn't need to see the field for at least 3 years. That is plenty of time to hone and develop his skills.

If your a QB "project" and won't see the field for 3 years, what is the chance your recruited over VERY quickly and never actually see the field? Honest question.

Considering one of those years will be his Sr year of H.S. and the other would be as a red-shirt.

I understand that is the risk. He wouldn't be able to compete for the job until 3 years. If Fergy ends up being our guy, it will me longer than that. I realize the rage has been to have "splash" qb's that come in and play Freshmen or R.S. Fresh year, but that is risky. I would much rather have stable situations where QB's sit and learn for a year or two and then have 2-3 years to play.

I don't doubt that him playing QB at UT has been discussed between him and the coaches, but UT isn't recruiting him as a QB first.

I'm sorry, but you are mis-informed.

I understand that recuiting is a big game and puzzle. You tell kids what they want to hear in order to acquire their services. In order to get Jennings' services it has been widely circulated that you have to recruit him as a QB. Most of his "big" offers are for QB. What these schools' intentions with him are when/if they get him to campus are only known to them, but as of NOW they are telling him QB. The schools that aren't saying QB aren't getting much attention from him right now.

Ok, so his SR year of HS and his RS year in college, plus likely a 2nd year in college. What's the chance a school like Tennessee misses on a top tier QB(not a project) in the 2015, 2016, and 2017 classes? If I'm a project QB coming in behind 2 elite 11 guys with 2-3 classes coming in behind me before I see the field, I'm either looking at other schools or I'm reconsidering my stance on playing QB in college. JMO

Jauan likes UT a good bit. I'd say we're leading.

I don't think he's QB, though. I think he could be a great safety.

Maybe the guy from Blackman on here can fill us in a little more.

I'll tell you the info I got, which came from a pretty
credible person:

Jennings likes UT a lot.

He LOVES Butch.

He's enamored with playing QB, but even he and his family realize he may not be best served to play QB at the next level.

A lot of schools are offering him a shot at QB, but most have been realistic about his chances of staying at the QB position. (I inferred that UT fell under this category, although they didn't really specify)

Now, what part of that would you dispute?

I understand that point, and don't disagree with it. I would much rather prefer to start a kid that has been in the program 2-3 years over taking a chance on a true freshman. His talent and athletic ability isn't questioned. It is his "polish" as a QB that is. It is my contention that he has the ability to be polished into a VERY good QB over the next 3 years or so.

Honestly, if he were to focus on being a Safety 100% of the time I agree he would see the field much sooner. However to take your argument and turn it around, looking at our DB class this year and the depth we would have back there in the 2015 season, which would be better for him? I'd rather have to beat out 1, than 4-5. That's just me personally.

Just to throw something completely off the wall out there....if he were to focus on his corner skills, he could write his check all the way to the NFL (in my opinion). The league is going to bigger CB's and with Richard Sherman (also 6'3) and his success will cause the rest of the league to catch up.

There's not much to dispute there. Pretty good summary.
