'15 NC DT Shy Tuttle (UT commit 9/26/14)

If there is one thing I've learned in all my years of watching football, it's that the transitive property does not apply.

Sure. You can't say: "UT beat Western Kentucky, who beat Navy, who beat Pittsburgh, who beat Notre Dame, who beat Arizona State, who beat UCLA, who beat USC, who beat Stanford, who beat Oregon. So, UT is better than Oregon". But,you can say "Indiana is a garbage football team, and the best explanation of Missouri losing to them is that Missouri is probably not as good as we thought".

We can't use transitivity, but we can use abduction.

Does anybody think that when we add Tuttle, having another big name recruit on board will affect other kids who maybe weren't really considering UT? Do you think there will be many big time recruits who will maybe want to jump on board and be apart of a class with big time names such as McKenzie, Tuttle, and Williams? And do you think we would drop guys already committed accordingly if said "big fish" were to be interested?

Thats a possibility but I don't know. Last year Wharton and TK were helping recruiting like crazy. This year it doesnt seem like anyone is doing anything close to that. Unless I am mistaken.

This last sentence will have some people up in arms. The answer to that is yes. Some may not want to believe it but it happens. Coaches sometimes accept commitments as insurance policies. Take Sweat for example, if he really wanted to come to UT and there wasn't a spot, somebody would be dropped. To build a championship team you have to get the best players. If other big fish want in, CBJ will find a way to get them in. Some will say that is a BS move by the coaches but it happens.

Kahlil is working Twitter hard. Apparently there is some super duper secret group text a bunch of the guys are involved in too.

After what I've seen 9-3 is almost a lock if we get past UGA.
Exactly. UGA isn't it's normal self on offense. They are one dimensional. Worley is >>> Mason. Everybody left on our schedule, except Bama probably, is very, very, very beatable...as evidenced by losses on their record.

If we pull off wins against UGA and UF, then we get Bama in Neyland with a LOT of momentum and confidence, so who knows. I think it's mainly a matter of CBJ and Bajakian can getting the OL tightened up.

Okay. Now we are getting a bit ahead of ourselves.

We are a better team than last year, and should expect improvement. But talking about the beating Georgia, Florida, and then Alabama is a bit much.

Having a loss does not = very very beatable. It depends on who beat you. Not to mention, Ole Miss does not have a loss on their schedule.

Not to pee in your Cheerios today, but you need to pump the brakes just a bit!

Yes it does. Pessimistic folks like yourself want to believe every conference opponent we face is an unbeatable Goliath. Our SEC E opponents ALL have a loss thus far, which is pretty rare.

A loss = vulnerable. It also exposes weaknesses. Our loss exposed the OL as a weakness. We beat a USCjr team, last year, that was FAR more talented on offense and defense than they are this year. UGA doesn't have Aaron Murray, and Mason is an average QB, at best. Unlike Murray, we can stack the LOS to stop the run and literally dare Mason to sustain drives with his arm.

UF looked anemic on offense, and vulnerable on defense.
Mizzou looked very beatable in their loss to Indiana...in Columbus.

Here you go:

@ErikAinge3 Florida is average, Missouri is bad, Vandy isn't up 2 old bad Vandy standards, Kentucky is better but still Kentucky. Let's go BIG ORANGE!

I said all our SEC E opponents already have a loss and looking vulnerable. And if we win against UGA and UF, we going into the Bama game AT HOME (Neyland) with momentum. I guess you don't know what the phrase "Who knows?" means. Good grief. You're a card-carrying member of the "legion of low expectations."

Not gonna lie...

Though I don't expect us to win every game left on our schedule, I feel like we could win every game... even Bama.

It's nice to at least not feel like you are bringing a wet noodle to a gun fight. We've got a squad that bring an upset on any Saturday. It won't be too long until we are no longer playing the underdog role.

Agree. If this Oline improves and they should, we will compete and could win some tough ones.

Lol. Make sure you know who you're talking to. I'm a relatively optimistic member of VN. I've constantly held to a 7 win season, and I think 8 is possible. There is a lot of possible space between "we can beat Bama...every team that has a loss is crappy" and "maybe we shouldn't discount Ole Miss yet...and Bama is stil probably a loss".

Saying that we shouldnt expect 9-10 wins yet isn't pessimistic.

What gives you this newfound inclination? Is it that we beat Utah state and Arkansas state and Oklahoma covered the 21 point spread against us?

You forgot to mention the Seattle seahawks have a loss this year too. I'm sure our vols would have a pretty decent shot given they are one dimensional on offense
