'15 NC DT Shy Tuttle (UT commit 9/26/14)

I don't get why this is so hard to understand for certain people.

We certainly would take all of them, but I highly doubt that they will all want to come here. I think once we hit 3 DT's with either Tuttle or Jones that the other prospect will put UT in the back burner. I think 3 elite DT's is fantastic for a single class

This may sound dramatic, but the NCAA video game series has really ruined people's perceptions of how recruiting works. You can't just target a top player, land him, and then wait a couple years until he is a 95 OVR. Busts and attrition happen in every class not to mention injuries. Several years ago people on this board thought we were stacked at WR with Hunter Patterson and at the time Rodgers. Last year we saw how quickly a position can go from a strength to a weakness.

Quality game changing DTs are rare and you take as many as you can as often as you can

I really would like to see us get to the point where we don't have to sign JUCO kids, unless he is a can't miss, game changing prospect. They are just too hit and miss, especially with the grade concerns on many of them.
For sure. Although even Bama, after like 7 straight number one classes, still recruits some JUCOs. But definitely hope we can get to the point where we won't have to rely on them.

Attrition and busts ensure the occasional need for an infusion of upperclassmen talent. And every school has both...

Probably limited number of scholarships available and the fact that teams don't play with 11 defensive tackles on defense. There are other positions that need attention. I would say that's where the disconnect comes from.

We have JUCOs that will leave the program in one to two years. We will have attrition as well.
If we have the chance to take McKenzie, Tuttle and Jones we will. Those who know more about this than I do have said the same. The numbers will work out. Stop worrying.

Agree. We also have plenty of dead wood that we can get rid of.

Agreed. Especially since our luck hasn't been so good lately but times are a changin'.

Especially now that it looks like Weatherd won't make it in this year. Frees up another scholly to insure we take that 4th DT in 2015 IMO.

Weatherd doesn't do anything to help us except for the 85. We still can't back count anymore so we re going to be up against the hard 24-25 unless there are grey shirts. At least I'm pretty sure that's the case.

Who said I was worrying? Didn't realize disagreeing with your take on recruiting constitutes worrying. You act as if it's a foregone conclusion that we will get an endless supply of DTs and I'm just saying we won't.

All three of those guys may not want to come. Which is fine, but if they do then we will take all three. That is all I am saying. If one of those three guys weren't elite then, yes I'd say use the scholly elsewhere. But you can't turn down the opportunity to sign three guys that are elite at a postion that has to have alot of quality depth. Owen Williams will have one year left when these guys get in, DJ Jones would have 2. Tuttle and McKenzie both could end up gone after 3 years if they prove to be the players they are according to their rank.

You can just about never have enough quality DTs on the roster.

UT has learned how detrimental it is to not land elite talent at the DT position. The last time we did was 2004 and that player only stayed one season. When you have the rare opportunity to land multiple elite players, you sacrifice.

Bahahahaha and this is to all people saying we would turn an elite tackle away look at our line. Just my opinion
