'15 NC DT Shy Tuttle (UT commit 9/26/14)

Take a look at our DT depth for 2016 and rethink this comment.

So what happens in 2016 if we ignore another position to overload at DT. Besides, who's to say we couldn't get 3 more DTs in 2016 with one being a JUCO. 2016 is a couple of seasons away.

We also have Michael Sawyers, Joshon Roberton, D Hendrix, potentially Kyle Phillips if he chooses. But you need to rotate those big uglies and some may not pan out. You recruit like hell to get Shy Tuttle, and yes, at the expense of another position, because the position is just too important.

The only other position i worry about is outside linebacker in this class. Weatherd, if he makes it, won't contribute this year, and Jakob Johnson is at DE, so our crop of outside backers in last class is now light in numbers.

4 guys at a position where 2 guys will start is not overloading. It's not like we're taking 8. DT also happens to be the most important position in football other than QB, and it rotates bodies maybe more than any other position on the field. You can never have too many quality DTs, especially in the SEC.

Agreed. At least we got Bates who seems like he could be a special one, and maybe Elliot Berry or Cortez McDowell could slide down to play OLB. I will say that a great D-Line will make their LBs look really good in the same way that a great O-Line can allow a RB to pile up stats. The battle in the trenches is always the most important.

If we could land McKenzie, Tuttle, Jones and Picou, you do that. SEC caliber DT's are H-A-R-D to find, brother'man. That's the one position that we've had great difficulty, and if we can make up for that in one class...then some dang long-snapper is going to have to grayshirt.

Picou and McKenzie look to be in the boat. IMO it will come down to EITHER Tuttle or Jones. Tuttle commits to UT and IMO Jones goes elsewhere when he decides around December. Jones moves his announcement up and picks UT, Tuttle will go elsewhere. I don't think both go Vols.

Settle to Clemson IF he qualifies.

Yuuuuuup. May not be this year or even next, but Elliott Berry is gonna be a bona-fide stud. You don't bet against a Berry. I'd love to know a guy with McDowell's size could stay at Safety... we need a good slobber-kncker back there

I think CB Jones would take Jones, as well. you need a solid 2 deep rotation if you want to hang with the Bamers, depth-wise. 4 SEC caliber DT's in one class would make up for a lot of struggle in the past few years

I agree it would be great, I just don't think recruits see it the same way the fans do. We fans say just stack them as deep as you can in 1 class. 4 top DT options know that if they all sign with 1 school, at least a couple of them will be back ups at best. Also figure in the 9 DL guys taken last year. Also the other guys already on campus. Top DTs have a lot of options. Getting them to ignore the numbers being taken and the depth chart IMO is tough.

When it comes to DT's, the No.2's play nearly as much as the 1's...depending on the gap in talent. All they have to do is look at the roster. We ain't "stacking" em in. Robertson is probably going to be an OL. Mosley is going to be a medical redshirt this year, so he won't have any experience edge on them...and he might go to the OL as well.

So, again...it ain't a matter of loading up cause we can. It's because we NEED to.

I really would like to see us get to the point where we don't have to sign JUCO kids, unless he is a can't miss, game changing prospect. They are just too hit and miss, especially with the grade concerns on many of them.

That sounds good, but good teams still take Juco prospects.. Just not as many as we have over the past few years
