'15 LB FL Cecil Cherry (former Vol commit)

“I talk to (Tennessee coach) Butch Jones almost every day. But most schools, I don’t really talk to them like that,” said Cherry[.] “He wants me to be a leader in recruiting this class with Andrew (Butcher) and Preston Williams.”

The 6-foot-1, 219-pound Cherry said he “might go to the Orange and White (Game) at Tennessee” in April, but that’s the only visit he has planned at the moment. Otherwise, he said, he only has decided that “I’m still taking my officials.”

“That’s what I’ll have to do, because I’m just starting my online class,” Cherry said. “I’m fixing to knock it out so I can go ahead and get up there (to Tennessee) early.”

Cherry said he also has developed strong relationships with Tennessee running backs coach Robert Gillespie and linebackers coach Tommy Thigpen.

“They just share that, ‘We can’t wait to get you up here to be a leader of the defense,’ and do what I have to do,” Cherry said. “But at the same time, they don’t just care about (nothing) but football. They just care about me as a person, and they show me they can be a father figure to me and everything.”

This isn't to say it's okay to have putrid 40 times, but getting panties in a wad about it is pointless. Much like CrossFit, the only thing the 40 is a good measure of is your ability to run the 40.

Could it be possible that a LBer may be able to run a decent 40 time and save a touchdown on a busted play? I think there are plenty examples of why 40 times are very important and are graded regardless of position. NFL team front offices and GMs agree.

I'm trying to think of the last time I saw a LBer run down a WR or RB from behind on a busted play........
