'15 LB FL Cecil Cherry (former Vol commit)

In years past, it was expected that our commitments would visit elsewhere and "have a good time". I think times are changing and so is recruiting. More and more schools are pushing kids to NOT visit after a commitment. If the coaches are going to ask Weatherd or any other recruit to not visit elsewhere, I think that should go for all commitments. It has to be even across the board or it could prove to be a bad way of doing things. JMO

I agree with once you commit then no more visits. I think the coaching staff would also prefer that as well. IIRC I don't think the coaching staff told Weatherd not to visit TAMU but strongly requested or something to that effect. I am the type of guy that a commitment is a commitment. If I committed to UT then I would want to be there as much as possible. I don't know what Cherry's motivations are for these other visits. Maybe he just wants to visit other parts of the country. I just can't wait to see him in O&W busting people.

I'm not worried about him visiting other places, why is everyone freaking out? He gets to visit other major universities on THEIR dime; I'd visit every SEC school I could. He says he has his mind made up, just preparing if, for some reason, Butch isn't here (which is smart, never know what's going to happen). He's committed to our coaches and to our future, and until he does something untrustworthy I have no problem, and I'm sure our coaches don't either. This opportunity doesn't come for many kids, I'm sure they want him to enjoy it.

IMO we have to think about the downside of forcing recruits to shut it down. You wouldn't get early commitments and the momentum that provides to building a class. I think the positive side is well worth the odd flip

The poster I was responding to said he was not going to worry about us losing any recruits until we had recruits jump ship. Lee and Powell were my examples and fit the bill quite well as they were UT commits and now are UT de-commits. I feel confident Cherry is a Vol come signing day 2015. Would I have taken his commitment this early with him planning to take a lot of trips elsewhere? No I would not have. After he is done having his fun, I would then take his commitment. As a coach I would not ask Weatherd to not go to a&m and then be cool with Cecil taking visits all over the country. JMO

Lee had grade issues and the staff was concerned about impact on our APR. That is the ONLY reason Lee isnt a Vol.

"Halftime stats for Cecil Cherry...

He has nine total tackles, a sack and a three-yard rushing touchdown. Not sure how much more I'll see as his team is up 35-0.

Bishop McLaughlin, the team Frostproof is playing, hasn't run it at him all night. Most of his tackles have been outside the tackle box. But, when he hits you feel it. Kid brings the lumber.

We'll have an update with him after the game."

Butch recruits better than most everyone that has recruited him. Feels like home, loves the tradition. Coach Jones told him there was sonething different about him. Ray Lewis is his role model and loves to hit like him. Big fan of smashmouth football. His cousin, former UT RB Tony Thompson, told him of the great tradition UT has. Plans to visit for the UGA game and the AU game. Wants to see the stadium atmosphere and keep building his relationship with CBJ. Loves Thig, said he tells the truth and is a great coach. Is trying to be an EE, major in sports mgmt.

I cannot believe how hard this guy hits people, I just watched his recent film and I'm just stunned. Every play the ball carrier's head whips back. I think he killed two kids on blocks in the return games. I wish he was in the 14 class , want to see him in orange ASAP. And to realize he has another year to get bigger and stronger...sweet baby Jesus.
And he isn't in the top 100 or 250 is a ldisgrace to football. I don't know if he lacks a certain speed to be ranked high or pass coverage is weak , but it didn't seem to be in the film, of course it's always positive plays in the film but wtf. His tackling ability alone should put him in the top 200.

It seems he is a lock as long a CBJ is the Boss and I don't see that changing. In the words of Mr. Bart Scott "Can't Wait"
