'15 LB FL Cecil Cherry (former Vol commit)

Cherry is a great player don't get me wrong but trust me he is not fast at all. I will also say he plays really weak competition. I like the kid I just don't think he's quick enough. He is slower than aj.

I agree. Most people forget about Gavin Bryant and how good he'll be. The kid is fast and more explosive than Cherry.

Entirely possible but it's really weird that someone that was committed so long and seemed so solid in all of his comments, suddenly just has a change of heart like this. I find it weird that this is the first we've heard about Texas being his "dream school" as well; generally we hear that earlier in the process.

It could really be that Cherry just now has time to really dig into the recruiting process but it's just a little strange in the timing especially for a kid that's an EE.

He was quoted as saying everyone would know where he was going on NSD...maybe we are not letting him EE? Maybe he doesn't qualify to EE?

I think Cherry is a great player, a hard hitter, and very motivated. Regardless, he does not make or break this class. As others have mentioned, Bryant is basically a slightly larger, faster version of Cherry. I'm thinking with the sudden-ness of everything that Bryant may have grade or character concerns as well. That, or we have some other more important guys giving us a serious look... or silently committed.

Whatever happened to that Dalton kid? Santos, if I remember correctly. Must be putting up great numbers at Texas.

This. Bryant is a head knocker and will be a very good MLB for Tennessee. People are writing him off way too quickly.

Don't get me wrong, I hope we can keep Cherry but I'll be shocked if he signs wth UT. This is a prime example of why you ALWAYS recruit until the name is on the dotted line.

Now watch Butch go upgrade the position with Kirkland and tell Cherry "Sorry, you don't have a spot."

Y'all are crazy. First of all, Cecil "The Diesel" Cherry is a straight BEAST and will do big things at the next level. Secondly, the kid is all VOL!

Heard the RTI guys this morning say someone close to the program described Cherry as a smaller, SLOWER AJ Johnson. He's a run stuffer that can bring the wood, but he may not be a good fit in what is basically our base 4-2-5 defense.

Welp, he definitely loves him some UT......would appear to be the wrong tho after his "dream school" comment.

did I read where Texas can now pay scholar athletes????? I am sure there is more to it....I wish I had eligibility left

I'd love for Cherry to stick with us and be a Vol. But if we do end up losing him (as it appears we might) and end up pulling Kirkland I would be cool with that outcome.

In all honesty I actually prefer Kirkland bc I think he's the more complete prospect. He has better size and runs better than Cherry. I don't know if he has the striking ability that Cherry has at this point but not many do, he is a straight head hunter, or if he has as good of instincts as Cherry. But all things considered I think Kirkland is the better/more complete prospect. He's a potential 3 down backer whereas Cherry is a 2 down backer IMO.

The one thing that I will miss the most if we lose cherry is his passion, kid seems to truly love the game, and looks like he could be a good leader on the field and in the locker room. Maybe Kirkland is that way as well but I don't know enough about him to say if he is or is not.

No one player makes or breaks the class. If he wants to come, great. If he's had a change of mind/heart, that's fine too. UT will continue to recruit the best players to win games and represent the University.

Cecil is a physical guy with a lot of heart, but I think his lack of speed could make him a liability in a lot of situations. 10+ years ago he would have made one hell of a fullback. I think that's his true football calling. Too bad fullbacks are an endangered species these days.

Why did we recruit him at all then? Sure was a waste of time since all of a sudden he went from a sleeper 3* to a bum. Just because he's visiting other schools.

Nobody said he is a bum. His lack of speed and height has been a much debated concern from the beginning. Nobody has questioned his toughness.
