'15 LB FL Cecil Cherry (former Vol commit)

Who else is on our board besides Kirkland? It seems like the possibility of missing out on both is there.

With Austin Smith at 6'3 230, I'm curious if he could end up at MLB in time. DeBerry while unlikely at this stage, I think he could be a very good MLB as well. Yes, I know most feel he will end up at DE. Another kid we may should have tried to keep on the hook was Simmons. He picked UVA, but I think MLB is a possibility for him as well.

Brant Mitchell would have liked to been in consideration I think. :)

I think it's really relative to who the recruit is. I mean let's be honest some recruits have more "luxury" than others in taking visits etc. If a recruit is really key to the class then you most definitely will give them a bit more slack. However these wishy washy comments make me believe you have to open back up recruiting a MLB; part of that is trying to see where you stand with Cherry part of it is trying hard to get back into it with other MLBers on your board.

I think you are probably right in that it depends on which recruit is taking the trip. Ideally that should not be the case. If you as a coach are going to push for no visits, IMO it has to be across the board and not selective. If you're a recruit and want to take visits, just don't commit yet. If you're worried about losing your spot, speed those visits up and get your recruitment over with. I know if I were a coach who pushed for no visits after committing, I would enforce it or do away with it altogether. I would not allow this recruit to do it and tell 2 others they can't if they want to keep their spot.

In a perfect world, yes but at the end of the day it's about improving your football team. If you have recruit A that is highest on your board and the next recruit you can conceivably land is a lot lower down the board then they will get some slack. If you have recruit B and they are rated similar or lower than some other recruits that you feel you have a legit shot at then they are more in risk of losing their spot.

Siap

tennessee linebacker commit cecil cherry (lakeland, fla./victory christian academy) said he’s setting up an official visit to clemson for november 29 when the tigers host south carolina.

“i’m going to call (tiger defensive ends) coach (marion) hobby and see how it looks,” cherry said.

Cherry said he isn’t talking to any other schools beyond tennessee, texas and clemson. He doesn’t have any other official visit dates set up.

I'm interested to get GFW's take on why this reminds him of the Mouhon situation. I guess I'm not entirely sure if Mouhon decided to peace out on his own and play with his brother where there was less competition or if the coaches decided to move on from him.

Hope not. Bird in the hand IMO.

It would seem a lot like how the Rocky Reid situation is playing out if you believe he's on the verge of flipping to UGA or Wisconsin.

I like Cherry's commitment to the team/class and he has been rock solid, so it would seem as if something had to trigger this sudden interest in other schools.

I was just wondering.

Cecil's a beast and is a perfect fit for us. Gonna look great in the Big Orange Uni! Can't see him downgrading his shade of orange. But taking a visit to Austin TX and Clemson SC to see a couple of nice match-ups is just living the life while the opportunity's there.

Big Orange Nation loves you, Cecil. Enjoy your vacations.

Cecil behind our line should be fun to watch. The comparisons to Ray Lewis during the Ravens 1st Super Bowl run come to mind.
